-- CC Sabathia did not play catch on the field, instead opting to give his tired left arm a little extra rest. The plan is that Sabathia will throw a light bullpen session tomorrow, dropping his workload from 45 pitches to 20-25, and then see how he feels. He continues to insist that he is pitching on Friday and Joe Girardi said he would expect the same if Sabathia gets through tomorrow's bullpen fine.
-- Johnny Damon is out of the lineup for one more night to protect his sore right calf, though he is available for pinch-hitting duties. Damon said he had plans of playing today and wanted to test the calf during batting practice but the Yankees medical staff was concerned that he still feels something in the calf.
-- MLB has denied the Yankees' formal protest of Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Marlins, meaning it will remain just that, a loss. ... The Yankees have talked about playing Hideki Matsui in the outfield during this series, but there are physical concerns about his ability to hold up for nine innings ... Girardi said that Alex Rodriguez could rest one game of this series.
-- Xavier Nady could realistically re-join the Yankees next week if all proceeds well at Triple-A ... It sounds like Cody Ransom will be activated tomorrow with Angel Berroa leaving and Ramiro Pena staying on the roster. Girardi said the Yankees would make defense the priority in the Berroa-Pena decision.
With a third-inning double, Derek Jeter logged the 425th two-base hit of his career, surpassing Babe Ruth for sole possession of fourth place on the Yankees' all-time list.

what's the use of swapping Ransom for Berroa?
Report any abuse or spam
Simple, Ransom is better than Berroa,.. Put Arod back on the bench, 2nd & 3rd he Ks, One pitch Cano did it again, Runners LOB. So far so good w?the Wanger..WE NEED A WIN TONIGHT!
Report any abuse or spam
Both Ransom and Berroa are garbage, they always have been, but Ransom's glove isn't as bad as Berroa's, for whatever that's worth.
Report any abuse or spam
I guess I was too Quick to say anything about Wang.., I forgot he can't pitch w/runners on base. He loses his concentration which is why I mentioned some time ago that I think he needs a shrink...,I thought he might have gotten over it but, NO.
Report any abuse or spam
5 runners left on base in the first 3 innings. Wang, Mr. Inconsistent. 2 strike outs and then they hit him all over the park for 3 runs. Posada strikes out twice. Jeter's double wasted. Hanson pitches around Tex because he's not afraid of AROD and sure enough AROD strikes out and misses two pitches he should have hit out of the park. Desperate pitching and desperate hitting so far. Cano grounds out with runners on 2nd and 3rd. This is not good. The Yankees cannot beat teams under 500. They're going to be caught soon by the Jays and are falling farther and farther behind the Sox.I have no confidence in this team right now to win one game of a series let alone two. We're in trouble.

Clueless Joe For GOD'S SAKE STOP STARTING WANG!!!!!!

ONEOF5 THIS TEAM HAS BEEN IN TROUBLE SINCE 2004. AS LONG AS BRIAN *UCKING CRASHMAN IS THE GM OF THIS TEAM IT IS IN TROUBLE. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED!!!!!
Report any abuse or spam
I don't like the NL rule of no DH. Pitchers are not hitters usually and there's a risk of them being hurt on base. Wang was lost for a bunch of games last year because he hurt his ankle running the bases. Prefer the American League DH. Hopefully the NL will change the rule soon. Sure out in the lineup usually. Not very exciting.

HAL & HANK THIS TEAM NEEDS A SHAKEUP YOUR FATHER WOULD HAVE HUNG SOME BY THEIR *UTS OR FIRED SOMEONE BY NOW. TIME TO DO THAT BOYS!!!!
Report any abuse or spam
Great. Swisher grounds out. Hanson is terrible tonight and the Yankees can't take advantage. Braves taking it to Wang. Swisher should be on the bench and pinch hitting and starting in the outfield occasionally. he's not an everyday player. Need Nady back but his return is stalled for some reason. Is he ever going to get back? Gardner is not an everyday player either. Need to bring someone up and give them a chance or trade for a good outfielder. They should have traded for Cameron before the season started.
Report any abuse or spam
No chance that the NL will change the rules and add the DH, besides there is more strategy involved without the DH and people like that.

NICE JOB SWISHER. THREE MORE LOB'S
Report any abuse or spam
It never ceases to amaze me we put a runner on 2nd base 0 or 1 out and we can't get them home. Other teams appear to always manage to score against us in similar situations.. WHY?, WHY?, WHY? We had this same problem last year w/LOBs. IS IT JOE??
Report any abuse or spam
SWISHER IS A BENCH PLAYER NOT A DAMN STARTER. AGAIN THIS TEAM HAS BEEN PUT TOGETHER BY AN IDIOT NAMED CRASHMAN WHO SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS MESS THAT IS CALLED THE NY YANKEESS. IDIOT, MORON, INCOMPETENT ALL DESCRIBE CRASHMAN.

Gardner ISN"T an everyday player, but Cameron SUCKS far worse than Gardner/Cabrera. Who wants a guy who strikes out as if it were going out of style and will struggle to hit .250. His skills are deteriorating badly. He's not an upgrade for this team. One of the few SMART moves Crashman made during the offseason was not getting that garbage.
Report any abuse or spam
I don't think you can blame Crashman for Swish. No one knew that Nady would go down.
Report any abuse or spam
Amen .. Swisher is a 3rs stringer yet batting second behind Jeter. Aroids is just showing me more and more why he needed to take the roids. Posada is at best a DH and should not call a game, Berroa and Ransom? Give me a break .. they couldnt make a high school team.
It's time daddy Steinbrenner took back control of the team and fires his SONS, Girado and Cashman.
I am all in favor of giving some of the kids down on the farm an opportunity. They have more moxie, drive and determination.
Report any abuse or spam
I wouldn't trust an inexperienced unknown who has no offense to lead this team out of the crapper this team now finds itself in. I have more faith in Posada who has been there before and has a track record of success and actually has some power.

mattys I DO blame him for continually making bad decisions over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over AGAIN. He is a BAD GM and is CLUELESS on how t build a winning team. If anyone is fired by H & H it should be Crashman. That have the $$$$ get rid of this JERK NOW!!!!

seeknay,
As you know I'm no fan of Crashman, and he should be blamed for the endless bonehead decisions he has made, but with that being said signing Swish just isn't one of them.
I don't see the Steinbrenners holding Crashman responsible for this mess, that would be the same as admitting to a mistake, something they are too Pigheaded to admit to so we are stuck with him for a while. I said that Crashman's re-signing would be the beginning of dark days for this team, could it be that I'm right?

Their catcher gets a double, a single and a home run and our catcher strikes out 4 times! Ridiculous. Posada really looks uncomfortable at the plate swinging at everything and anything. Other than the one inning Wang didn't do badly and the bull pen has held the Braves except for the one home run. Only 4 hits for the Yankees and they are really looking as if they don't want to win. There's not a lot of hustle or energy or enthusiasm. Have the older guys quit playing for Girardi? It certainly looks like it. ARod is a total disaster right now. He better his game together soon. The Yankees should have got their runs in the early innings but left too many men on base. This looks like another lost series in interleague play. Gardner goes down looking. Wonderful.

The pitching staff is old and thin (except cc), position players are getting old and always under pressure to come from behind, management sucks, always out maneuvered despite their financial advantage. Eight years of blowing millions on bums and passing on gems, the pitching staff should have been rebuilt after Wells, Clemens and Andy P. left and who did they bring in? Brown, Pavano and Contreass, scouts suck ( where is the young blood? )Even the radio broadcast team sucks, we'll never win with them they're a jinx. How can Cashman keep his job and what is his excuse going to be this year when the Yankees finish fourth? We've got a herd of millionaires and no one gives a damn, top to bottom.

This is exactly why Jeter was a poor choice to be captain. Does anyone think that Thurman Munson would have made such a statement?
Jeter portrays that "professional" attitude shared by many Yankees on those last championship teams. Guys like Tito, Paul, Mariano, etc. were the ultimate professionals who "got the job done" on the field. Torre was the proper choice for a team like that. However, as guys retired and were replaced the "pro attitude" was still the norm, but the new guys didn't get it done on the field. They didn't perform on the field. Torre did not change his style and get in the face of his team, he just expected professionals to work it out and get it done. Well, it didn't work out and he was gone.
Girardi was a poor choice to replace him. Instead of putting the hammer down on these under-performing veterans, he seems to just expect things to happen and everthing to work out.
These guys need a foot up their *ss, not a kind word. Just look at Cano and Melky. One sat down and the other sent down. Their doing fairly well this year.
Fire Girardi, Long, and Eilland. Their philosphy is a failure.
Time to bat Arod 7th, bench Swisher and Damon, play Melky and Gardner everyday, DH Posada, dump Tomko and Molina before the deadline, play Cervelli.
If you make these changes immediately, I think you'll see the rest of the guys start to shape up nicely.

FIRE GIRARDI NOW!!!!

whoever is in favor of girardi being fired, say "I"
he has had many different chances to prove his place but he always fails. they lose 2 out of 3 to the worst team in baseball. thats just embarrasing. i am the biggest yankee fan out there and I say we need a change. we spent the most amount of money in the offseason and what do we have to show for it? being 5 games back from the ****** red sox!!! 2nd place is not acceptable with the money we spent. Burnett has to step up and so does Sabathia. Teixeria is doing fine and is holding his weight at the time. lets go yankees and win some ****** games!!!
Report any abuse or spam
Under any normal situation on any other team benching starters wouldn't be a bad idea, but in this situation it's not the solution to anything and would only hurt this team, especially if you bench starter en masse. You can't bench both Damon and Swisher that would only leave this team with only two OFers and neither Cabrera nor Gardner are even close to good enough to provide any significant amount of offense whatsoever, an Of with those two starting at the same time would be a disaster for this team, besides Gardner isn't an everyday player and is nothing more than a No.8 or 9 hitter. All those two have done is show how inconsistent they are as hitters. Making Cervelli a starting catcher would be a huge mistake. He has almost no experience whatsoever and doesn't have much of a bat, another player who won't provide much offense. If this team is going to dig itself out of the deep hole it has dug for itself, it's going to need a vet with a track record of success behind the plate. It makes absolutely NO SENSE at all to blame the catcher for the failings or the shortcomings of the pitcher. The pitcher still has to execute and get the pitch over the plate successfully without the hitter smoking the pitch. Again, the failure of this pitching staff can't be put squarely on the shoulders of Posada, but rather a lack of talent and shortcoming of the so-called talent on the staff. If this team should make a statement to the rest of the team by moving players it should make A-Rod the DH and possibly make Pena the starting 3B. Pena isn't much of a hitter but by merely making that type of change, this would send a shock wave through the team. Unfortunately, I don't see this type of move happening.
The real problem on this team isn't just a lack of performance by the players, and a lack of talent in some areas of the team, but rather the attitude on the team. It's shown no life or fire at all season, and it's allowed to exist due to a lack of action by those who don't know how to deal with this attittude or don't think the attitude isn't a real problem. If that's the case then those reponsible for it should be fired. Status quo on this team means absolute failure.

This team will be in big trouble if it finds itself at .500 or less and in 3rd place or worse at the halfway point which is coming up fairly soon.
