Cashman: Manny 3/$75M report "not true"

Just swapped text messages with Brian Cashman, who wrote two words to splash some cold water on the Impacto Deportivo report of Manny Ramirez receiving a three-year, $75 million offer from the Yankees:

"Not true."

There's still a chance the Yankees make a push for Manny, but it really appears unlikely until after Mark Teixeira signs. That report said an announcement would be made Monday or Tuesday, but especially with the holidays approaching, the odds of having another huge gala press conference at the old Yankee Stadium in 2008 are dwindling.

oh come on, true or false you know brian never tips his hand

I'd be shocked if we signed Manny over Teix. It doesn't make sense.

1) We need a 1B far more than we need a LF/DH

2) We need to be getting younger, not older

3) If we are willing to 25mil a year on Manny, we can spare 20-23 on Teix

4) We don't have nearly as much salary commited beyond 2011, when Manny's deal would expire. We can afford an extra 4 or 5 years for Teix who would be a franchise player, along with CC and possibly A Rod(if he doesn't begin his decline)

5) A large chunk of the fanbase despises Manny

6)Cashman would be forced to deal away Matsui, and will most likely get peanuts in return since our logjam gives us no leverage. Or we would shift Damon back to CF, which won't go well for anyone

Oh what a tangled web we weave....who knows what's true anymore!

if they are any arguments with that list, please share. I have a strange feeling we are going to sign manny anyway, so I may as well get used to the idea.

If I hear Manny being Manny though, ever, I will feel the need to snap something. I don't think I'll ever be his biggest fan.

The thought of Manny in pinstripes repulses me and I have been a loyal Yankee Fan for almost 50 years. If Cashman signs Manny when a player the caliber of Teixerra is available the Yankees deserve to fall into a curse that lasts as long as the Red Sox curse lasted for selling The Babe! People like Manny and Terrel Owens think "they" are the team and put a dark cloud on any pro team and sport. Bringing people like that into your clubhouse makes a great team poor! Someone saying " Gas is up, so am I " is the perfect example of who you don't want on any team. Besides you would probably have to pay DANGER PAY to employees over 60 years old for the next time Manny is unhappy!

I'm no fan of signing Manny. He's basically a DH, and the Yankees have a dugout full of them. Is the difference between him and Matsui worth $25 million/yr? And don't forget that Posada, even if healthy, is going to have to DH some of the time.

The Yankee offense is good enough to win. They outscored the Rays and the Angels last year. Yes, they lose Giambi (a really good hitter with no one on base) and Abreu, but don't forget that Posada and Matsui were gone, and both Cabrera and Cano rate to be much better this year.

From what I've seen, the media has us as underdogs in this division. One good season from the Rays actually puts them ahead of us, but people forget that we won the season series-- not won, DOMINATED! Bur yet we're underdogs. Same with the Red Sox... people forget we humiliated them in the last series of the season, and won the overall season series by two or three! And may I remind you that was without a pitching staff ?

But, you know what? I like it. Let people think that the game is played on paper; now it's our turn to use that little term.

Priority for Yanks should be Tex, not Manny, if not then Swisher will remain fall back option for Yanks at 1B. IF they get Tex, then Swisher can be moved to OF since he can play all three OF positions. Tex can also provide that protection that A-Rod needs for years since he is young and has a quality bat. Yanks could then use Nady in RF. Latest reports are that the White Sox are the only team that have shown any serious interest in Abreu as he continues to price himself out of market with demands of 15-16 million per year, Rays may sign Burrell soon so other FA OF's like Abreu, Griffey Jr., Dunn are about to get some idea what their worth is once he signs.

YEAH!!!!!!!!! GO PHINS!!!!! KEEP MAKING HISTORY!!!!!! JUST ONE MORE VICTORY FOR DIVISION TITLE!!!!!!!!

NO MANNY< PLEASEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!

1 Damon DH
2 Jeter SS
3 A Rod 3B
4 Manny LF
5 Tex 1B
6 Swisher CF
7 Cano 2B
8 Nady RF
9 Posada C

With any luck this team will wise up and forget about Manny. This team doesnt need an All- Star at every position. That would be the dumbest move this team could make, period. Besides 1B should be a priority not the OF, have Nady take Abreu's spot and sign Teixeira.

Matt, from I've heard the A's interest in Abreu is luke warm at best, I think you're right the White Sox have the most interest in him. Abreu would need to take a pay cut before more teams are interested in him, besides like you say he is more of a complimentary player.

Matt,

Looks like you were also right about Giambi going back to the A's. According to the SF Chronicle Giambi's return to the A's could be some time soon.

king,

Abreu is out of his ever lovin' mind if he thinks he is worth $16 million per year for three years. No way is he close to that. That is most likely the reason why the A's haven't shown more interest in him. He is in the tier of players that include Griffey Jr., Burrell, Dunn, etc., none of them will sign until someone amongst that group signs, and it looks like Burrell will be the first one of them to sign. Teixeira's signing likely will not have an affect on them since none of them are in the same league as a hitter as Teixeira is.

Wang signed...What happened to Bruney, he is not listed as arbitration eligible.

Manny or Boras is leaking this but Cash would deny until its official.

No comparison between Texiera and Manny...Manny carried a young Dodgers team to the post season...Texiera on average is a 25 homer 90 RBI , .285 hitter...pedestrian numbers for some one who is asking for $ 20 mill a year....Manny and Pujols are clutch...Texiera doesn't rate with either...Manny will keep the new stadium full...He has a huge Dominican/latin following in the Bronx...will provide the cover hitting cleanup that A-Rod needs to flourish. Yanks can grow young by platooning Swisher (.240 all or nothing hitter) and playing Miranda at first, trade weak armed Damon & Cabrera or Swisher to Kansas City for pitcher Greinke, platoon Manny and Matsui in Left/DH, keeps both fresh...Yanks stunk in clutch situations last year...terrible with RISP...Manny solves this problem instantly.

Manny comes with baggage that will kill the team within the contracts duration. Whatever he creates offensively he will kill in defense and team chemistry. He was chased out of Boston because he was lazy and faked injuries. I'd rather get "pedestrian" numbers of Tex than anything Manny would bring to this team.

TROLL ALERT!!!!!! TROLL ALERT!!!! That idiot keyswahili is back!!!!!! Look " genius" this team doesn't need your mancrush Manny dragging down this team with his emotional issues. This team still has more than enough problems without that drama queen. This team's priority should be 1B, and that means getting Teixeira who could fill that hole for years. Miranda is an unknown who doesn't look like he can the kind of offense it needs after losing Giambi or Abreu. Also this team doesn't need Manny to keep the seats filled. The new stadium and the team itself can do that without him. This team doesn't need any bogus players on its roster.

Melky does NOT have a weak arm. He has a cannon attached to his shoulder, which keep players from trying to sneak extra bases from their deep hits. Manny is a waste in the field. You know, for all the crap everyone gives Abreu for his defense, Manny is ten times worse. Abreu's offense/defense package versus Manny's offense/defense package and the $8M difference in the price tags makes Bobby the better buy for the Yankees. Either way, I'd rather see Tex than Manny. I'd even more rather see Bobby Abreu and Andy Pettite at discounted salaries than either of them.

I am reading some of your negative comments on Manny and it is completely unjustified! Why does Manny get slammed and the BoSox get a pass? This organization talked about trading the guy for 4 years straight and would never open the books when it came to extending his contact- so what does Manny say? I want out! It seems that BoSox really appreciated him, meanwhile he led them to 2 WS Titles! Why do I say "Led them"? b/c you could obviously see that Ortiz and the others weren't sh*t w/o Manny! Manny's got the most lethal bat in baseball today, period! There's no Arod, Pujols, etc - Manny is the best hitter, period.

Why would he be a distraction? The Yankees org is very organized - tell him the deal and I don't thk they'll be any problems! We've plenty of nut cases in the past and they've turned out OK - We had Reggie, Wells, Sheffield, Canseco, Strawberry - we can handle it!

I know you'll be all over his Jock Strap when he brings a title or 2 - he's the only chance we've got! Take a pass on Texeira, he has not proved anything - he is average player - what warrants him to get 195m? He must be out of his mind!

This team doesn't need another old player who is nothing but a headache on its roster. Only a moron would think that Teixeira is an average player. Teixeira is a younger player who could fill a hole at 1B for years. i've said it before , and I'll say it again, this team does NOT need an All-Star slugger at every position. Nady would be more than sufficient in RF. he provides better defense that Abreu and is the same type of offensive player as Abreu. This team struggled last year and it could possibly struggle again this season, it doesn't need any bogus players faking injuries causing problems for this team. Besides this team needs to get younger, getting MAnny doesn't guarantee anything.

oh cmon garrett, ur saying Manny doesn't gt anything? ur talking about a guy that has prob the best postseason hitter of all time - has 2 ws rings and single handly took LA to the 2nd round of the playoffs! Tell me what Tex has accomplished? Records speak for themselves! Arod will NEVER deliver a title as the main focal point of our team, he needs a guy like Manny to take him to the promise land! Have u noticed if Ortiz is the same player? NOPE! Yes, Manny might be a pain in the ***** at times but he is one of the most decicated baseball players - ask Mattingly! Don "The Loser" knows baseball!
