Gobble, gobble
Happy Thanksgiving everyone -- hope your holiday went well and you left the dining room table without another inch to spare. Here at blog central, it was a small family affair, but I'm happy to report we somehow pulled it off and actually prepared the turkey without help from Boston Market. That, in itself, is a proud achievement.
If you were one of the mall warriors who rose in the wee hours of the morning to get the head start on shopping, you have my admiration. Black Friday is a little too much to ask the day after a meal like that. Besides, doesn't everyone shop online these days anyway? As for the Yankees, everybody has stepped away from their offices and desks for a quick respite.
Don't worry. The ratio of Andy Williams radio airplay and Hot Stove action are sure to be intertwined on the same upward scale in the next few weeks.

Yankees could increase offer to Sabathia-Bryan Hoch

Here's a funny. The Yankees fail to sign CC, Lowe and Burnett. Peavy goes to the Cubs and Sheets someplace else. In the "waiting", Andy goes to LA. Moose retires. That leaves us with a rotation of Wang, Joba, Hughes and two players to be named something like Weaver or Vasquez or Chacon later. If they let Andy get away again, I'm going to be pissed.

Yanks won't go after Andy if he refuses to take a pay cut. No way is he even worth close to what he was paid last season. Yanks would be absolutely nuts if they pay a pitcher who no better than a decent No.5 the kind of money they paid him last season. Posada and Rivera were different situations altogether. Yanks are in a far better position to deal with Pettitte than they were those other two. If he refuses to take a pay cut, screw Pettitte and go with Burkett or Sheets. Both are huge risks but if both can stay healthy they are far better than Pettitte.

CC and all of those high paid players better get while the gettings are good. Those salaries are coming down, the economy stupid. CC and the rest better get off that high horse, the party is coming to a end. Run to NY CC, bail outs are happening there. As Dandy Don Merdith use to sing on monday night, CC, A-Rod, Jeter, the party is over turn off the lights. CC take the money" FOOL" get while there is getting.

Man...my ears were burning...saw where Matt, wrong as usual, injectected my name with others into one of his many, inane diatrabes concerning a sport in which he has no knowledge ...stick to Tidlikwinks, Matt....The Yankees focus has to be on acquiring Sabbathia, Burnett, and Peavey...in that order... forget about throwing dollars at an ineffective Derek Lowe...let him go back to the Sox...offer Petitte a one year, $ 10 million contract but don't be afraid to let him walk...Pettite is way past his prime. The Padres hitting is dreadful and Peavey, being ultra competitive, wants out and will love to play for the Yanks and will do well in the AL, too. He has electric stuff and the personality to adjust to the NY stage...plus he is only 27 years old. Matsui will come back in good shape and will be able to play 120 games in left field, switch Nady to right We have a boat load of old timers and average outfielders clogging up outfield positions that might help the Padres...Melky, Damon, Brett whats his name...and include some of those " overated" position players/pitcher in the minors for Peavey, too, like Ian Kennedy...The only three worth protecting is Juan Miranda , Austin Jackson, and Francisco Cervelli...the rest are expendable. A staff consisting of Wang, Sabbathia, Peavey and Burnett would keep the Yanks in the hunt long enough to straighten out their inconsistent clutch hitting..Speaking of which, Cano, will return to form this year...last year was an abberration...Time for the Yanks to start projecting Austin Jackson in Center Field and Juan Miranda at 1b this year...forget about signing Texiera, for $ 20 mill for 10 years...that would be a horrendous mistake...Posada is fooling himself if he thinks at his age that he is going to be able to squat behind the plate for much longer...and he is not the Yankees short term answer at first base , either...get Cervelli as much playing time in the majors as possible...Posada is on his last leg...The Red Sox have managed to live with the ups and downs of Jed Lowery and their kid centerfielder and still prosper...the Yanks have to bite the bullet and throw Jackson, Cervelli, and Miranda into the deep end of the pool now...they won't drown and the Yanks will prosper, too.

Pettitte is better than Burnett because he won't mess up future plans. Sui is done.

I read some paper that said we might sign and trade Pettitte with Damon for Kemp.
Report any abuse or spam
Kemp isn't the answer to our offseason, though it would a turn in the correct direction for the franchise. Question is, where would we fit him? He isn't a natural CF, though they use him out there. In speculation, my best guess would be that wisher plays LF, Kemp RF and one of Gardner or Melky ( one of these guys would be headed to LA ) in CF.
I can't wait until December, a lot of good things are going to happen. A new year awaits! Hopefully a championship for the Yankees is somewhere in the horizon, but that's really all a product of how management turns this tea around.
I agree with the guy that said we should use our youngsters and let thm grow out there. The problem is the fans nor the organization support that, but with our payroll, who would? We should be fielding a team that's a world series contender every season, and have a good farm system while we're at it.
For now, I don't think Sabathia is the answer to all of our woes, but if he signs, it would be a good start. We nees to stay away from high-priced guys like Lowe and Burnett; We have cheaper and better alternatives in Sheets, who is just as good as Burnett and will require a smaller contract, and a guy like Brad Penny, who is a flame throwing righthander and is in a similiar situation.
A rotation of
Sab
Wang
Sheets ( my preference )/ Penny
Joba
Hughes
is great; Better than that of Boston or Tampa Bay.
I didn't mention Pettitte because my gut says the Yankees aren't going to sign him unless he takes a paycut, which he won't. Unless we miss out on Sabathia, look for him to stay unsigned.

My guess we strike out with free agents we will get agressive with trades. I wouldn't give up the same people as for Santana but Houston or San Diego could have Kennadia, Cabrera and Horne for Oswalt or Peavy, no way either gets Hughes or Cano.

TROLL ALERT!!!!!! TROLL ALERT!!!!! The asshat keyswahili (like anyone believes that crap) is back spreading his usual dumb, retarded garbage trying to look like a real baseball fan. Nice try dope. Maybe you should try sticking with cleaning out toilets, with any luck you might make a successful living out of that. God knows you can't do it by talking baseball. That's obvious by what you said in your idiotic deluded post (one of may). All you do is repeat something everone has already said. Nice job of boring us.

Peavy would love to play for New York? You're a freakin' genius keystostupiditywahili. Peavy wants no part of New York, try and keep up.

Wow!!!! This keyswahili, or whoever he is ( I think we all have some kind of idea who he is) should either quit sniffing those cleaning chemicals or go back on his meds. Start Austin Jackson? He is nowhere near ready to start in the majors. HE has no experience in AA. It's ludicrous to risk one of the few decent hitting prospects in the system, and possibly ruining him. We all saw what happened with Kennedy and Hughes when they were pushed to do something they may not have been ready for. Juan Miranda had a decent year but his numbers weren't all that impressive. It's fine to see what the younger talent have, but do it intelligently, and in a way that won't screw up their progress in the future. Starting a guy like Jackson in the majors before he is ready is absolutely dumb and unnecessarily risky. With that being said, I think this team has learned its lesson from last season about pushing younger players before they are ready, that resolves nothing. A Teixeira is a far better solution than Miranda and a broken down Giambi.

Sabbathia could have agreed to signing with The Brewers LA or NY all with good monetary offers starting at $100 M but he hasn,t why not ? I do not agree with any of this location stuff. If he wanted The West Coast so bad he would have signed with LA already. Hed is chasing the dollars no doubt. This will result in LA upping their offer and NY topping it again and again if necessary and he will I think end up in NYC. After that they should sign Abreu and maybe Burnett or Peavy and not go after Texeira so hard. The move to sign Swisher was a good insurance move. It prevents NY from being held to ransom which they would have been without Swisher. Now the ball is in Texeiras court. Hopefully the above makes sense.

Of the trio, Cervelli, Jackson, and Miranda, only Miranda is ready for any playing time in NY. Rushing the others could do more harm than good. So I'm in agreement with PG and Rocket. However, no one's legitimate opinion is a waste of space and should always be welcome here.

I will hopefully catch up with you again in late April early May as I will again visit NYC for another holiday. I found The Champagne Flute Bar hard to resist and not only for champagne reasons.
Did you have a take on my view of the Swisher signing as insurance to prevent being held to ransom with the view we were /are desperate for a solid 1B with Giambi all but gone. Signing Swisher negates that view somewhat. Has anyone a take on my view. It appears to be a shrewd move by Cashman.

Mate,
For whatever reason, I've heard no indication that any teams other than the Brewers and Yankees have made an actual offer to Sabathia. His agent likely will not set a $ figure before an offer is made. I also believe the "close to home" thing is not as big a factor as others have said here at least I hope not. His playing in Anaheim or Los Angeles would still be 400 miles or so from his home.

Does anyone think CC should hurry up and make his decision not for the benefit of himself, fans or any franchise but the other free agents? Nothing's going to be settled until either he or Texeira drops off the radar and I can imagine the likes of Burnett, Lowe, Sheets et al are probably a bit frustrated

I think Teixeira said he wanted to know where he is playing by Christmas. Otherwise some pressure could come from the Player's Association I guess! I have heard that the PA would express displeasure if CC signed for less than the highest offer which would likely come from the Yankees.

Hey, Aussie Bryan ... How's it going mate?
I think the Nick Swisher trade was a good move by the Yankees; but, only if he is used as a role player off the bench ... Swisher is a perfect player to fill-in at number of positions: (1B); (LF - CF - RF); (DH); (PH) ... He only played 71 games at first base last year, so I really don't think he should be the Yanks starting first baseman ... But, based on what Brian Cashman has said, as of now, Swisher is considered our starter at first ... I agree, Bryan, this move could be an insurance policy if the Yanks do not sign Mark Teixeira ... But, I also strongly believe, the Swisher signing should not be a reason to let Tex sign with another team ... It's going to take a 7-10 year deal, in the range of $175M- $200 Million to sign Tex ... The Yankees should not let this opportunity pass because of "money" !!! ... I think, Mark Teixeira will sign with the team that offers him the most money [it doesn't matter to him where the team plays]; and, it would be a shame if the Yankees don't sign Tex, and he signs with the Boston Red Sox ... Now, that would not be very good for the Yanks, as the Sox lineup would be so much more stronger with Tex at first; and, the Yankees first base situation [with Giambi gone] would be like last year when we had players such as: Duncan; Betemit; Ensberg; Sexson; and Lane [all "Nick Swisher" type players], in the 1B, OF, DH, PH -- "role" !!! ... Like Robert said, "Teixiera wants to know were he is playing by Christmas" ... I hope the Yankees pay whatever it takes to sign Mark Teixeira !!! ... Like you said, Bryan, "the ball is in Teixeira's court" ... Hopefully, the Yankees will vist Tex soon, and make him an offer good enough, so that he will become part of the Yankees court for at least the next seven years !!! ... Take care, Bryan ... Go Yankees !!! ... Jimmy [27NYY]

I think you missed my point, I was not alluding to signing Swisher was insurance against not having Texeira or a replacement, it was a shrewd move by Cashman. It prevents from his agent upping the price because NY was in desperate need for a 1B. They don,t have to play the game, maybe they can gain the upper hand at the negotiating table. does that make sense ?. Supply and demand so to speak. This way Casman can dictate the terms at the table. They will now get Texeira at a much lower price wait and see.
Aussie Bryan
See you for mid morning, lunch time and afternoon tea in April in NYC

Robert, Aussie Bryan, Candy ...
Like Bryan said in his above comments, "CC Sabathia is chasing the dollars, no doubt" ... I think CC is just waiting to see how high of an offer the Yankees are willing to make for him to come to the Bronx .. The last offer I seen was: 6 years / $150 Million. And, as Robert said, there are "no indications that any teams other than the Brewers and Yankees have made an offer to Sabathia" ... Candy has it right when she said, "nothing's going to get settled until CC and Tex are signed" !!! ... So, I guess it's "wait and see" regarding Mark Tex and CC Sabathia; and, as they say "follow the money". Enjoy the "Hot Stove League" !!! ... Jimmy [27NYY]

Aussie Bryan,
Yeah, I hear your point, and it does make a lot of sense !!! ... The Yankees are not in a desperate situation to sign Mark Teixeira because they now have Nick Swisher; and, yes, I agree, the Yanks will use this factor as part of the negotiations with Tex and his agent Scott Boros ... A lot depends, though, on how many other teams will also be involved in the free-agent market for Mark Tex ... The amount of years Teixeira wants will also be an issue, as the Angels have already said they will not sign a deal for more than seven years ... From reports I have seen, Tex is looking for a 10 year / $200 Million deal ... So, it will be interesting to see how much the Yankees will offer Tex, and for how many years !!! ... Cashman, and I guess others in the Yankees braintrust, envisions Swisher as our starting first baseman next year [at least, at this point in time] ... We will see how serious they really are about Swisher at first base when the negotiations heat-up over the next few weeks ... But, I hope the Yankees do not let money be the main issue in their talks with Teixeira ... Maybe, the length of the contract will be the key ... A seven or eight year deal for a total of $165M - $175 Million would seem to be totals that would be in the proper price range for the Yanks to sign Mark Teixeira !!! ... Anyway, Bryan, I'm sure we will still be discussing all the Yankees winter moves when you visit NYC [again] in April or May 2009 ... "Mid-Morning" / "Lunch-Time" / and, "Afternoon" Tea sounds great !!! ... I'm certain, though, that we will have something a little bit stronger mixed in with our tea during your visit ... So, I look forward to your return trip, to the great City of New York !!! ... Jimmy [27NYY]

pgarrett,
keystostupiditywahili is the same fool who kept crying about how the Yanks should go after a mediocre player like Bill Hall of the Brewers to replace A-Rod at 3B. LMAO!!!!!!! That no-talent has no bat and has hands of stone defensively. yeah right!!!! keystostupidity is a real "baseball genius" that's why he spends his days cleaning out toiletshoping one day to become a ditch digger. With his "intelligence" he'll never make it.

Sabathia has already stated that he will only go somewhere where his family is comfortable. If money were the only issue he would have signed most likely with the Yanks as no one would be able to match their offer.
Report any abuse or spam
Swisher is mostly a fall back just in case the Yanks don't get Teixeira. His signing affects nothing in terms of Teixeira's price, considering that there is plenty of competition for his services. Swisher changes nothing considering he isn't much better than Giambi offensively plus he strikes out a lot as his 135 SO's in 497 attest to, plus he is only a.244 career hitter. Why would the Yanks settle for less when they could get more in Teixeira? There's no chance his value will fall simply because the Yanks got Swisher. He will continue to be one of the more prized FA's on the market. If they don't get Teixeira then Swisher most likely be the 1B since he does have 200+ games at that position under his belt.
