Yanks' rookies are Macho men
Shortly after Saturday's game was rained out and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader to be played Sunday, the costumes came out, an annual rite of passage for first-year players with the club.
With a Village People greatest hits album blaring on the clubhouse sound system, six Yankees donned their outerwear, assigned in careful casting and showing much too much bare skin as the club's players and coaches laughed and snapped photographs.
"I told them they could only borrow them," Jason Giambi said.
Brett Gardner donned a construction vest and jeans, Alfredo Aceves became a screaming Indian chief and Francisco Cervelli was the leather-clad biker. Juan Miranda (police officer) and Humberto Sanchez (sailor) found different uniforms, and David Robertson was a cowboy - six-shooter and all.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi posed for photos with his players, who walked through Fenway's dark corridors as service personnel and fans snapped camera phone photos. Girardi said that the players would have to enter the team hotel in costume.
"They might not let them in," Girardi said.
Girardi said the Yankees will complete the schedule by pitching Mike Mussina in the first game of Sunday's day-night twinbill, opposite Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Sidney Ponson in the nightcap opposite Tim Wakefield.

I don't think Moose will be too chuffed with that. You have to win to get 20...surely you don't want the opposing pitcher to be the guy 18-2 with all round better stats and stuff

Moose reportedly said he won't pitch next year when asked that question.

Not true, bpark. Moose is undecided. His first choice is to pitch for the Yankees in '09.

I got this here Bryan.
An interesting side note: Palmer recently asked Mussina if he's coming back next year. Mussina replied: "I don't think so."
"Of course, that could change," Palmer said.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Moose and Pettitte come back to anchor the staff.

That quote from Moose (about being 40 and it getting tougher) makes it seem as if he wants a one year deal so he isn't forced into pitching season after season. That's excellent, exactly what the Yankees should offer him

Did anyone have the time to check out Johan Santana m'azing start?

I hope Moose does come back for another round.

I would like to see moose come back 1 more year as for Andy he is done we do not need him back he is washed up nothing more the a 6 inn pitcher at best plus the yankees do not score more then 3 runs when Andy is on the hill!!!

I think Pettitte has had a tired shoulder for a while and didn't tell anyone because of the type of person he is.

Wow street, way to talk about our horse who has helped us win all of these years. Man, at least show some respect?

Pettitte and Mussina will both get their one year offers. I'm not sure if Pett will sign, his offseasons always bring uncertainty, but I think a one year re-up in the new ballpark for about ten million dollars is fair for both sides. Mussina may bring the same x-factor as well. They will both be back, my guess being that Moose and Pett man the three and fourth spots of the rotation. As for the other two spots, either Chamberlain will be a SP, Hughes wins the fifth spot or we sign CC and/or Burnett and one of the above.

Johan Santana pitched a complete game three hitter tonite to lead the Mets to 2-0 win over the Marlins. Sorry folks this guy should have been wearing pinstripes this year and if he had we'd be discussing the playoffs instead of waiting until next year. Crashman's head ought to roll over that mistake.

Let me explain what i said about Pettitte what he did for us in the champion run was great he was great he is getting up there in age for a pitcher!!!Just look at the prof every time he pitches the Yankees do not score more then 3 runs for him 90% of the time!!!!I just feel he is done as a great pitcher. It is better for the team just like Bernie his time has gone bye!!!!

I could really care less about the night game, the day game is the one that's interesting. Two competitors, two marquee names in MLB going head-to-head. It's certainly going to draw in some fans ( in contrast to yesterday's minor-league crowd ). I'm rooting hard for Mussina and looking to put the season to bed on a high note. I wonder though... may Moose's 20 wins give him the satisfaction enough for him to call it a career? If so, then either way, tommorow may be the last time I see Moose pitch. My favorite pitcher.
Hughes is next on that line.
My favorite Yankee hitter: A-Rod

Congrats to Joe Torre for making the playoffs again! If we still had Joe the Yankees could have tied the Braves for alltime playoff appearance! Yankees biggest mistake not resigning Torre.
Congrats to Santana for another dominant pitching performance. The Yankees 2nd biggest mistake not signing Santana.
The only good thing about the Yankees not making the playoffs is that I can sleep in the fall. World Series & Playoff Games last too long!!!

I was only one here who said Moose would start in the rotation and I wasn't done, people here said I was nuts, I then predicted 16 wins for Moose, people here said I was high. Pettitte is not done and I sure Streets is not the only one who thinks he is.

Pettitte is done. Not in terms of can he pitch successfully next year but whether he wants to. He only pitched this year because his arm felt so good down the stretch in 2007. He ended this season injured after losing 5 out of 6 decisions. I'm not sure the new stadium is going to be motivation enough for him to return

that Santana deal looks like a bargain now huh? what was Minnesota asking for? Kenedy, Cabrera, Tabata, and Hughes? would anybody have done that trade now after knowing how 2008 went? i wonder how things might have been had Santana been acquired

We would have got to the playoffs and lost in the first round. Santana or no Santana we wouldn't be able to beat the Angels with the rest of our pitching staff.
To this day I still wouldn't trade Hughes in that deal.

levalboss I am with you on the Santana deal. I said from the beginning the trade should have been made. After watching him last night it only proved what a competitor and $$$ pitcher Santana is. Candyrunts until Hughes proves he can go one single season without going on the DL he is a prospect and that is all. Instead the Yankees did not make the trade and they have a AAA pitcher, a DL pitcher, a guy who was sent to the minors and another guy that was dealt to the Pirates. Bad move by a STUPID GM. Nothing new for Crashman!

At the end, they backed off Hughes. Santana is way better than Sabathia.
I believe they wanted Horne and Marquez with 2 starters? They really didn't want Cabrera, no one seems to.

it's weird because the Yankees have had a reputation for throwing money at a big name player, and this year they thought they would hold back and prove to people that they could support farm-grown players.. and it backfired big time
but in Cashman and Hank's defense, who knew that Wang would hurt his foot rounding third in an interleague game? who knew Cabrera's bat would stay cold the whole year? and that Pettitte would lose his effectiveness? and that Hughes AND Kennedy would be terrible this year?

I knew that Cabrera and Kennadia were not major league level players but the rest was shocking.

Who knew Johnny Damon would get an outfield assist this year. What a cannon.

If I see another lead-off double fail to be scored this season I'm going to explode. Two strike outs, surely Ransom has to bunt with Molina behind him who is unlikely to get a hit
