Moose on No. 20
Mike Mussina celebrated his 20th victory on Sunday by chowing down some McDonald's French fries and watching the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys play. He was especially proud of his accomplishment given how poorly 2007 went for him, and revealed that he thought he might be taken out of the rotation after he started 1-3.
That April 23 start at Chicago might have been Mussina's final chance before being relegated to long relief, facing a heavily right-handed lineup that threatened to punish him. Instead, Mussina beat the White Sox and the Yankees' young pitchers struggled, buying him precious time. Once Mussina won No. 10 on June 14 at Houston, he began to believe 20 was in reach.
"I'm proud of myself to be able to do this after last season," Mussina said. "I just had a lot of fun playing this year."
Mussina wanted to offer credit to every reliever that got outs for him in the 20 wins, not just the ones that recorded the nine outs he left them to get on Sunday. Here's the list of guys who got outs for Moose this year, just in case he'd like to start sending out thank you cards.
Bruney 12
Farnsworth 21
Hawkins 12
Rivera 34
Albaladejo 3
Chamberlain 23
Ramirez 11
Veras 16
Ohlendorf 14
Robertson 3
Marte 4
Traber 6
Britton 6
Giese 3
Sanchez 3
Coke 4

I agree tgooch it has been a roller coaster season. Think you have to offer Moose another contract as result of his season thou. As for the playoffs I believe we are looking at a Cubs vs. Angels World Series. I cheering for Lou to break the curse of the goat.

Papelbum was walking people apparently because he was mad at getting put in the rain in a meaningless game. Rivera would never act like that.

And with that 4-3 loss to the redsox the 2008 NY Yankee season comes to a close, less than memorable. Very forgetable. There needs to be some changes little Bosses!!

Congratulations Mike Mussina!! Perserverance... plain and simple. He deserved to get it and earned every one of 'em. Many of you know I've been a detractor of Moose, mainly because of the lack of consistency over the whole year... but this season puts all that to rest, even if he (and us) would've loved to have seen this kind of season for him over several years, especially while he's been a Yankee.
He does deserve some kind of contract offer... and what's more, he deserves a seat with the best of the best, that's right, the HOF.
The rest... ehhh, can I wake up from the nightmare now? I had a dream that George's sons were running the team now and they said stupid things in public and made stupid decisions that made the very rich and proud Yankee tradition seem like it was just a joke on the back of a bazooka joe gum-wrapper... [Costanza] all for the glorification of their MASSIVE egos! [/Costanza]

Congratulations to Mike Mussina for winning his 20th game !!! ...
Mussina's 20-9 record, is the brightest highlight of this very disappointing 2008 Yankees season ... I hope Mike Mussina decides to pitch next year for the Yankees, continuing his pursuit of 300 career wins ... But, whatever happens, and whenever Mussina decides to retire, his path should lead him right into the Hall of Fame !!! ... Jimmy [27NYY] ...

So..... Here we are. Some place that we've never been. And by "we" I mean us. Here. The last time we were here there was no internet to speak of (at least not in the way we know it today) because Al Gore had JUST invented it. But now, rather than commiserate with buddies at a bar or in class,we can share the misery.
My parting thoughts on the season have been stated already but I'll list them out here in case BPark is listening:
1. This team did not lack baseball talent.
2. Hughes, Kennedy, Cano and Cabrera are not solely responsible for the '08 failures.
3. Wang's loss had a huge impact on the season.
4. Our relief corps has WAY too many wins
5. Cano may have turned a corner.
6. Some of our good young talent has shown well in the last few games.
7. Mike Mussina is one of the elites at his position and deserves CY consideration because the AL East is a tougher division than the AL Central (Cliff Lee).
8. Mo is one of the best to ever play the game.
9. Signing Ben Sheets or Derek Lowe would be a horrible mistake.
10. This team did not lack baseball talent.

Hi, Bryan ...
Thanks for all your excellent work here at "Bombers Beat"; and, also, at yankees.com, and mlb.com !!! ... It has been a pleasure reading your posts, articles, comments, and thoughts ... It will not be a great time for Yankee fans during the 2008 post-season, but it will be over soon ... Then, we can all look forward to the Off-Season, and Baseball's Winter Meetings, and before long, it will be time to start Spring Training, and the 2009 Baseball Season !!! ... The Yankees need to make many moves and changes before the new season starts, so it should be a very interesting off-season ... Bryan, I look forward to all your future coverage of the Yankees, as they [hopefully] make every effort possible to improve the team, so that, in 2009, in the new Yankee Stadium, the Yankees will again be on top of the baseball world, winning their 27th World Championship !!! ... Take care, Byan !!! ... Jimmy [27NYY]

And here's what I do for next season:
1. Giambi, good bye. It's been fun but not really.
2. Johnny Damon, buy a 1b-man's mitt.
3. Cano, get some work in in the off season and you'll hit .300 next season.
4. DJ, just relax and take it easy. It's time for you to settle down and find a nice woman.
5. ARod, try to keep your pants zipped and your nose clean.
6. Jorge and Molina, good enough.
7. Matsui, rest those knees and work out in the off season, you're DH'ing next year.
8. X-man, find a nice place in the NY suburbs. You're going to be aorund for a while.
9. Gardner and Cabrera, be ready to work next spring.
10. Bobby, it's just a wall, it's padded. Hike up your skirt and play RF.
11. Moose, PLEASE come back and open up the new Stadium.
12. Andy, see 11 above!
13. Wang, get healthy. Your Cy Young award is waiting.
14. Joba, get those innings up in the AFL, be ready on opening day.
15. Phil, Alfredo, it's going to take work, nothing is guaranteed.
16. AJ Burnett, our money is worth more than theirs again. Get ready to move. But dont expect a Pavano deal. He ruined that for everyone.
17. Mo, you know what to do, I don't have to tell you.
18. Phil, Dan, Brian, Jose, Edwar, Dave, Humberto, get your work in this winter. Pitchers and catchers report in 4 months.

Congrats to Mussina on #20!!!! Didn't think he could do it, but no way he deserves to be in HOF, nor do I think he will get in. To the Steinbrenners, please do not make the horrible mistake of bringing back Pettitte who would be as biga mistake as signing an injury-prone pitcher like Sheets.
