Posada has a checkup
Darrell Rasner and Kevin Slowey are set to go at it tonight here under the lights from the Bronx.
What did you do today? I'll bet you had a better day than Jorge Posada, who spent a few hours in an MRI tube over at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Brian Cashman sent word that the results have not yet been shared with the Yankees by Dr. David Altchek, but even though that's not set to happen until tomorrow, it's fair to speculate that they didn't find everything to be ship-shape in Posada's arm. Once the level of damage is quantified, they'll know how severe it is and can proceed from there.
Chad Moeller is in the lineup tonight to catch Rasner. Joe Girardi believes they communicate well and Moeller knows how to challenge Rasner -- let's not forget that when Rasner was at Triple-A and lighting the world on fire, Moeller was there too. Nobody has really talked about the clock ticking, but Rasner desperately needs a good start to keep his spot in the rotation with July 31 approaching. A bad start certainly won't dissuade whatever trade talks may or may not be happening.
It looks like Johnny Damon is a solid 'maybe' to play left field at Fenway Park this weekend. Damon tossed again today and is getting closer, though the Yankees certainly don't want to rush him -- "I'm not going to push it, because I can't have a setback," Girardi said. Damon doesn't have the strongest arm anyway, and the Green Monster plays into it a little bit, cutting down the distance needed to hit cutoff men.

Buster says we'll likely end up with Jarrod Washburn.

He is a lefty and has been pitching OK as of late.......

Yep. Speculating that the trade will include Kei Igawa.

That makes it better get rid of that POC and let some other fans loathe the fact that he's on their team.

UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Jarrod Washburn? This guy is nothing more than a #5 starter with a 4.75 ERA and has allowed 131 hits in 110 innings? Not crazy about this deal at all since the Yanks may have to take on the rest of his contract for this season, and over $10 million next season, waaaaaayyyyyyy too much for a #5 starter. Well if this team is lucky enough they can unload Igawawful in the deal.

Would rather see this team stay in-house and try out Alfredo Aceves or McCutchen.

Either way we need a better choice than Rasner, and most likely a better choice than Ponson. Old fatso hasn't blown it yet, but I'm afraid it's only a matter of time.

Wash does have a 2.82 Yankee Stadium ERA if that makes anyone feel any better. Since the M's are obviously salary dumping here, maybe they could give us Ichiro for a song and attach Wash as a rider? Hmmmmmmmmmm?
Report any abuse or spam
True, but Yanks need to be more selective and try for a pitcher who has a career ERA under at least 4.50!!!!

I just can't wait for Hughes to get back. He's going to be the key to this whole thing, I feel. If we can get some solid production from him the last month of the season, we might just make it interesting down the stretch. I hope he's just not all hype, you know?
Report any abuse or spam
From what I hear, the longer Cabrera continues to struggle the more his stock falls, as it is most teams don't think much of him. The M's didn't want any part of him when it came to Washburn.

I like the washburn deal. He's a lefty who knows how to pitch.
There is a ton of talent on that seattle team, but the management and coaching is atrocious. I think a lot of the guys want out and just hate playing for that team. I think washburn would do well as a #4/5 for this team and definately bring us some wins.
If we can get Ichiro, I like this deal. what about getting Marte/Nady? I think if we can land these two deals we are set. Ichiro plays center and Melky gets benched, and Nady plays left field, while Washburn takes the #4 or #5 Spot and Marte is the lefty specialist.
This can work...

Raz Feels better pitching to Moeller. Maybe Molina's day off will be when Raz pitches.
If we make this deal to get washburn and MAYBE Suzuki, then I think either Rasner or Ponson are gone, but not both.
I don't trust Hughes down the stretch. if he gets hurt (again) then we are screwed.
Another DP for Rasner. Maybe he is going to have a good game...

well, we certainly ain't getting Randy Wolf. He was just dealt.

how about casey blake? He hits well w/ RISP.... Freddy Garcia is still alive...but do you think he'll blow up or he'll be solid?
Mike Gonzalez is available too. Maybe we can send a package of prosepects to Atlanta for Gonzalez and Texeira?

Well, if we can get rid of Igawa the Washburn deal seems to make sense already. Lefty pitchers usually pitch better than their career numbs at Yankee Stadium anyway, with death valley in left field limiting righty damage.

wait a second-Bryan...how could they "go for the sweep" tonight when they have anothe rgame against the former-Senators tomorrow?
Isn't that being a tad bit presumptuous?

Nice, another offensive showing! Defense is looking good, barring some freakiness... we're about to have the same record as the Twinkies!
I feel like a dolt, I thought they were in Minneapolis and have been talking like they're in the dome... hahahah, glad they're doing this at home though. This would be an even more quality sweep than the Oakland sweep in my opinion if we can pull it off. :)

Not sure why ANYONE thinks that Seattle would deal Ichiro . . . Mariners fans would riot and tear down the Space Needle if that happened. Even if they're dumping salary they have to have SOMEONE other than King Felix to build around. With the hefty contract that Ichiro just signed, it's going to be near on impossible to trade him, even to the Yankees.

ANOTHER SIMPLY OUTSTANDING EFFORT FROM MY MAN FARNSWORTH.
The bull pen is ixceptional of late with Baby Face robertson, Ramirez,, Veras Farnsworth. Giese will hopefully get an innings of work.
Come on guys now it is the time to forgive Farnsworth at the very least. You know who you are. He has been awesome.

There has been talk that he is available.
his contract is a reason why they would trade him.
That team is a disaster and going no where, with or without Suzuki. Its better that they get rid of him now while they can still get something for him and while he is young enough to trade. Besides, Nady makes more sense then Ichiro.
and
WE NEED A LEFTY in this bullpen. That would make it complete.

I don't trust Professor Hubert "Kyle" Farnsworth as far as I can throw him. He's doing well, but I think he's just having a good stretch.
I just don't trust him one bit and I never have-he was a choker in Chicago and also in Atlanta, and he can buckle at any pressure situation.
thats why we need one more hurler in that pen-Marte, Fuentes, gonzalez, or that one guy from SF...all available and within striking distance.

Okay, here's something I've been wondering about and I can't seem to make up my mind. Assuming we don't land a top flight first baseman such as Tex, should we start coverting Posada to a full time first base as early as next season? It would create a hole at catcher that we would likely need to trade to fill, but I figure we will need to move him at some point anyway. Still, I've been so spoilt by Posada's bat at catcher that I don't like the idea of the almost inevitable offensive drop off, regardless of whoever we bring in to replace him. What do you guys think?
I'm assuming that Montero is still years away and we are not at the point where we can bring in a stop gap player and wait for him.

Haha you guys see how bad the Mets suck?

Kbp, I'm amazed w/ how our bullpen has been performing as of late. I hope they can keep it up, especially Fransworth.
------
What are we trading for washburn? Just Igawa right? Kennedy better not be part of this trade; and I hope we can still go after Nady/marte trade.

Posada will most likely be moved from the catching position most likely next season, or the season after that at the latest. But technically there will be two holes one at catcher the other is still 1B since Posada will be nothing more than a short term quick fix. My guess is, the Yanks could trade for a catcher this season, and hold on to him as the starting catcher beyond this season. This is why it's important not just to look at the remainder of this season but beyond as well for positions such as catcher, and 1B when looking for a solid bat. This team will need more than rental players to fill the current holes.
If Seattle were smart they would trade Ichiro now while he still has upside and do what he has been able to do since coming into the league. What good would keeping him on a pathetic team do? They aren't going anywhere for years anyway. The team would be better of by concentrating on rebuilding the team with the prospects they will be getting for Ichiro, and they will be high-quality prospects.
I still don't trust Farnsworth at all myself. He's still nothing more than a 1-inning middle inning reliever. The only reason he has done well so far is because he hasn't been put in high pressure situations where would most likely blow up in.

From the sound of things the Braves will making any Teixeira trade a last minute thing, if they decide to trade him at all. Looks like the teams they are most interested in trading Teixeira to are the Suks, Angels,Rays, and Diamondbacks, no the Yanks aren't on that list.

The Yankees will trade for Yorvit Torrealba. He will takeover this season while Po has his surgery (which is inevitably what must occur), then next year Po and Yorvit will share duties behind the plate. The 3rd and 4th year for Po will be a mixture of Cathcer/1B/DH.
Cheers,

Jorge update: The MRI showed that his labrum is worse and that he has capsule damage. He will need surgery and a six-month rehab. However … he will try rehabbing for the next two weeks and consider trying to return as a DH and first baseman. Ugh just get the damn surgery Jorge! And I see that Cano is batting sixth today, I would think he would move higher than that in the lineup since he's been so hot lately, eh I trust my man Girardi though. The Girardi naysayers have been pretty quite lately:)

What, you don't think a synth can hit a curveball? What about a drum machine?
What a snub.

I think the whole Yankee medical staff has been a complete joke this season. Jorge couldn't throw the ball to second base at the beginning of the season!!! That is not a minor problem, one doctor HAD to know there was a serious rotator cuff tear there. yet, he tries to rehab and comes back only about 20% better. Im the biggest Jorge fan I know, but he should call it quits for the season, get the surgery, and come back next year. Jose and Chad Moeller can hold it down for 2008. We don't need another DH type bat on the bench besides Giambi, Sexson, and Damon (with a bad shoulder)
