We match up well every game except that Beckett/Rasner one. We should be able to take 3 of 4.

Oh please. The only pitcher that scares me is Beckett but that’s because of his ugly face and not his talent. This is an offensive showdown. Boston doesn’t stop scoring runs ever and in order to compete we have to do the same.

OK. We sweep!

We sweep, we're 1/2 of a game out of second! If the Rays can stumble, we might be in a 3 way heat for the division! Too bad we didn't show up for the Rangers!

Sweep or weep baby! No seriously though sweep or weep. If we don’t sweep it might start looking ugly in the standings. We only play 2 against Tampa. Even if we win both games that’s not a lot of ground. We have to work on Boston who we play 4 games against. Maybe then we can get somewhere.

This is the most pivitol month of the entire win. It's sink or swim time.

I know pitching is always a concern but I've heard Matt Hoilday might be on the trading block, I'm not sure what the Rockies would want in return though.

....pivitol month of the entire win? What? entire SEASON.

The Rocks would want the MOON for that guy. He can rake.

Holliday’s agent is Scott Boras I think. We have enough Boras robots on this team.

Who isn't repped by Boras? LOL.

Matt's agent is Boras? Screw that then. Matt would look damn good in Yankee pinstripes though, I like his hustle and attitude more than anything...a girl can dream I guess. And I for sure agree that July is a make or break month for the Yankees, a sweep of the Sox would be sweet as hell.

After reading the last thread, Does anyone think we're likely to add the salary of a Holiday or Suzuki? I think the answer is NOT THIS YEAR!

If we're unloading Abreu's 16 million, doesn't that offset what we would be paying Ichiro?

Chaz,
I think Suzuki's new contract is $23M+.

i hope something could be worked out with Abreu.. i know his salary is expensive, but i still think he's a solid part of the offense - and could still be next year if ever something's worked out

he just fits as a Yankee

I'm high on Abreu too! And he seems to be getting better at playing near a wall, the weakest part of his game!

For those of you who think Bill Hall would make a better 3B than A-Rod, think again!! Not only can he not come close to producing the same kind of offense A-Rod can he is NOT nearly as good defensively either. Hall has more than twice the number of errors as A-Rod does with 13 to 6, and Hall has played in two more games than A-Rod. A-Rod has a far better fielding percentage as well .964 to .919 for this season. In terms of a career A-Rod has a .973 fielding percentage at third while Bill Hall has a .930 fielding percentage, granted he has played fewer games at 3B, but all that doesn't mean anything based on his career numbers so far at 3B, he is still more of a risk defensively.

In short Hall offers less offensively, and defensively compared to A-Rod. Getting Hall would be a dumb move. Not that they would ever move A-Rod from 3B for this guy.

Matt,
Thanks for that on Hall. I think I've heard that he is a liability defensively at any position. What we need is a Gold Glove at 1B.

Robert,

No problem. This team has needed an upgrade at 1B for a long time, the only one who be worth mentioning if he weren't injured is Nick Johnson. Even though he had 15 errors last season at first, he has a .992 career fielding percentage, and a very solid bat to go along with it.

I agree with chaz this is a very critical month for this team, especially since most of its games are at home, this team needs to take advantage of that. I don't think this team can finish this month under .500, if it does it could be done for the year. I just don't see this team making up what might be a double digit deficit with the roster being what it is. I think this upcoming series against Boston will most likely end in a split, Masterson is a good one, he can definitely deal.

Matt,
I'd love to have Johnson back too, but it looks like he can't stay healthy! Does our future at 1B have Damon, Posada, or Jeter?

Our best on the farm seems to be AA All Star Chris Malec though Miranda may get a shot.

And the next six will give us a good idea of our playoff chances. If we just get decent contributions from Giese, Ponson, and Rasner plus the entire pen!

New thread.

Robert,

Those three you named are short- term temporary fixes. I've been saying this team needs a legit 1B for a while unfortunately, just like this past draft, this team wasn't in position to draft one. Miranda has had a decent season, but his stats aren't eye-popping. Malec is a ways off right now, hard to say anything about him right now.
