Let's try this again.

YANKEES GET
OF Xavier Nady
LHP Damaso Marte

PIRATES GET
OF Jose Tabata
RHP Ross Ohlendorf
RHP George Kontos
LHP Phil Coke
RHP Jeff Karstens
RHP Dan McCutchen

Why the change? What we're hearing is that the Pirates had a list of players to select and have modified their choices beyond Tabata and Ohlendorf. That's why Phil Coke was yanked from his start at Double-A Trenton last night. It's a slightly more recognizable list but still a very good deal for the Yanks. The deal is expected to become official in the 12 p.m. ET hour.

when can Nady and Marte start playing? i read that it becomes official at about 12 noon ET.. can they start today?

So Bryan, I heard they rejected Kennedy, why?

I don't like the dan mccutchen part.

Ohh my....I think the pirates got some value here....

They probably heard the fan reaction on that deal. They got McCutchen...

Its funny because if you look at all of the blogs on this deal, fans were saying the pirates got hosed....not it looks like the Yanks actually gave up something....they have two ML ready pitchers now...

It still seems a fine deal to me, it wasn't like McCutchen or Karstens was sniffing our staff anytime soon. I admit I don't know as much of Mc's background but Tabata was rallegedly our best prospect of the bunch and he was a problem so... :P

Like Matt said I believe the other day... you've got to give something to get something... in this case it should still work out and not hose us down the road? Another good point was made about Marte and not all pitchers being cutout to pitch in the big apple... that still has to bear itself out... so we'll see just how each side fares down the road, for now we've got what we needed and it doesn't appear to hurt us...

Now onto that sorry sack Wakefield... let's put a nice black spot on that recent record of his, we know his stuff well we should be able to manufacture some offense today!

Other GMs are upset that we got away so cheap.

Hmm, I think this is an upgraded deal for the Pirates. I don't think the Pirates got hosed out of the first deal, but they definitely got a lot more value with this updated offer. I think we have more than enough talent in our system to absorb the loss of Karstens (solid pitcher but like Tyler Clippard was just stuck behind a log jam of starters before him) and McCutchen, a very solid prospect with a lot of upside to him. I still say bravo to the Yankees for making this deal, in either of the 2 forms.

Yankees, Mariners still in talks
Jarrod Washburn | Mariners | Interested: Yankees? Yankees
The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners are still in serious talks about a possible deal including Jarrod Washburn, Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger writes.

The Yankees would like to include Kei Igawa in the deal, but Seattle is less than impressed with Igawa's track record at the Major League level.

The Mariners are reportedly looking for an outfielder and New York could talk about including Melky Cabrera, Brett Gardner or Justin Christian in the right deal.

Washburn has a no-trade clause in his contract that would allow him to block a trade, but it is feasible that he would waive it for a trade to a contender.

Bengie to join brother Jose in NYC?
Bengie Molina | Giants | Interested: Yankees?
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the New York Yankees have been scouting Giants' catcher Bengie Molina now that Jorge Posada's shoulder injury has threatened the remainder of his season.

However, it would take one heck of an offer to pry Molina, who is signed through 2009, away from the Giants.

Winn in Pinstripes?
Randy Winn | Giants | Interested: Yankees?
The New York Yankees have been scouting San Francisco outfielder Randy Winn, writes Ed Price of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Winn is a switch hitter carrying a .277 average with five home runs. The Yankees are looking for a bat with the futures of Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui in doubt.

Winn is making $8 million this season with a slight bump to $8.25 in 2009.

Oh, you guys gotta read this:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2008/07/26/now_hes_a_guaranteed_out/?page=1

Manny-being-Manny finally wore out his welcome....Chump.

So, how would you guys like the division? wrapped or on a silver platter?

Go Pirates. Go Yankees. Go Xavier. Go Tabata. Goooo.
http://theburghblues.mlblogs.com/

What I don't understand is why they didn't drop him after he attacked that old man in Huston? And why did they give him a free pass for 8 years?

and um, I don't like the idea of giving ANY worthwhile talent for Washburn. Take Igawa, you chumps. You'd be lucky to get anything for washburn right now.

And like I said before: If they want cabrera, we want Ichiro. There is more of a chance of getting hit by a meteor then that deal happening.

I say, if they want Igawa, do the deal.

They want more then that, then tell them to pay washburn's contract and go cry over a cup of starbucks or something.

If Manny is waived, he will clear waivers and the Sox won't trade him. If he isn't allowed to play, the Union will get involved. If they outright release him, he will be our DH.

I don't want J-Wash, Wang will be back for the playoffs, lets focus on Fuentes and Molina.

the perennial Red Sox problem with Manny usually goes like this..
1) his commitment to the team appears to be waning
2) Manny has mysterious injury that may or may not be real
3) rumors swirl that Manny's gonna be traded
4) Ortiz persuades Manny to stay
5) Manny says he's happy to be with Boston
6) Red Sox fans smile and say, "It's just Manny being Manny. Hooray!"

You want ramirez on this team so he can pull the same crap here that he pulled in boston???

CHAAAAAZZZZZZ!!! I need you to be the voice of reason here!!

First off, Manny looks like a retarded version of the Predator. second, he'll never come here because HE WON'T CUT HIS BRAIDS. If you think he's going to clean up to come here, and if you think the REDSUX will out right release him then someone gave you one of those "adult" brownies last night while you were out watching the game.

If anything, the Boston Gym Socks will keep him this year and let him walk next year. If he don't wanna play, then he'll sit or they'll spin it so the 60 day DL him or something.

Either way, without him, this team is done. D-O-E-N done. (Homage to Jerome from Mahatten)

Yeah, well, this team likes to employ bad-***** who like to beat up old men. I don't like manny MRiRez the least bit. I'll put him in the same catagory as the likes of Albert Belle, Milton Bradley, et all as ALLTIME baseball jerks.

Oh, and Bonds...yeah well, he is just Satan. Evil Evil Bigheaded man....

OOOOH! Barry Bonds is Ed Bighead!!!! Thats it!!! He's Ed Bighead.

Hahaha. I just amused myself. I managed to get in a plug for Rocko's Modern Life...Ha! I rock today. GO- me.

Michael, it is not a question of want. Hank loves these vets.

Now that manny could be traded, they are either likely looking for a centerfielder or a Shortstop. I just hope they don't include manny in a package to get Ishiro.
----------------
Are the M's stupid, so you're telling me they want Igawa & melky for a pitcher that will only pitch for us for a month. He would be even lucky to start on this team. This is why they need a GM.

Amire, the M's are stupid.

BPark-I hope you are wrong.

Yeah, lets have manny in left and Bonds as DH....I'm gunna hurl.

Ogyeah, so sign Freddy garcia, Trade for maddux, sign bonds, trade for Andruw Jones and get Manny.

Ok, I'm going to drink a bottle of Jack right now because I can't deal with even the THOUGHT of that Happening.

Lets just go watch this game and watch the yanks win and get destroyed tomorrow. 2/3 is a good series (if they can take the game tomorrow...man, that would be righteous)

BOTH Giambi's fly out and A-Rod's hit would have been HR's in the Stadium.

And These Umps are AWEFUL....that pitch around Giambi's ankles was a strike???

And what is pedroika arguing about when he struck out SWINGING???

I hate this ball park, I hate this team, and I hate everything about the red sox.

1. Game - Check
2. Set - Check
3. Match - To be continued

:D

The umpire behind the plate sucked! He seriously could not dicipher between a ball & a strike, especially the ones to Giambi. There was one ball that nearly touched the floor and he called it a strike.
