Damon could go to the DL
It looks more and more like Johnny Damon could be headed to the disabled list
for the first time in his career, though that's still not 100 percent
certain. They planned to re-evaluate him on Sunday but when a guy can't
put his uniform jersey on, he's a long way from playing left field at
Yankee Stadium.
Speaking of that, did Dustin Pedroia think Damon was still playing left field in the first inning or what? Nice throw by Brett Gardner and it got a pretty good reaction from the crowd. That's a heck of a heads-up slide by Jason Giambi there to put the Yankees on the board as well. You wonder what was going through his mind as he huffs and puffs around third base, then sees the ball is going to beat him by a great margin.
Still waiting for the energy to pump this building up. It's warm, hazy and I know it's Yankees-Red Sox, but it seems like there's still 55,000 people (less the people wearing red, and there's a lot of them) waiting for a reason to explode. Maybe some of them are feeling under the weather like Jorge Posada is.

Once again bases loaded less than two outs and Giambi and Betemit are unable to get the damn ball out of the infield. Teams that are competitive, teams that win DO THAT. This is one of many reasons this team STINKS. Stop trying to be the hero and play basic fundamental baseball you jerks.

The Yankees seem completely incapable of getting a hit when they have 2 outs.

As stated on other blog Gardenr has I believe fulfilled all expectations and although 1-16 he has not been the strike out bunny as suggested. He has worked the count full 9 times and has hit the ball well and hard and could have had a number of more hits,
Also all and sundry has bagged the bull pen ALL YEAR. Now with Veras AGAIN throwing well with another impressive 123, absolutely nailing Veritek and with Baby Face Robertson and Farnsworth the bridge is shaping up well.
Overall in the past 10 games it has not been the fault of the bull pen.

Also where are all the Farnswort baggers fair dinkum HE HAS BEEN VERY CREDITABLE in 95 % of his innings pitched. Here again with a two run lead he has gone 123. Give the guy credit when it is due don,t just sit back and wait for a stumble before you slam him credit given when credit due.

As one who has criticized Farnsworth I will give him his due here, he has held the lead now it is up to Mo.

no Damon, no Jorge, no Matsui.. this year's trade deadline should address a big (or consistent) bat

Turn the game over to Mo and he's in deep trouble, What a rotten year.

greatest relief pitcher of the modern era. The fact that he loaded the bases with no-out and got out of it with the save proves how great this guy is. 22-22 in save ops....This was interesting...

Yesterday was a season defining loss with the runs scored on Damons dropped ball if you can call it that and then bases loaded 1 out and no runs then the last hit by abreau falling just short.
Then today 2-0 up the unthinkable with Mo hitting two and pitching into and out of a bases loaded none out jam, just as season defining. Joba up tomorrow to hopefully square this series and get the team back on track ready to face The Rays.
This win should be shared between Mussina, The Bullpen and Riviera.

Crisp and Varitek helped out too. Just don't dump it on Lugo the two guys before him K'ed and popped out to first base. Must be taking lessons from the Yankees. If the shoe had been on the other foot today this board (including myself) would have gone off.

Hank, Cash, and Girardi need to pick up one or more bats this trade deadline

Agree pride they need another outfielder with a stick. If Matsui and Damon are down they need another stick in the outfield. Who's available?
Report any abuse or spam
Crip and Varitek put the ball in play Rivera got Lugo down the plate. Without Damon, Hideki and Posada in the lineup this is wha you get two runs a joke.

Who's available? Yeah, thats a great idea sigh another outfielder. How about Bonds?
Report any abuse or spam
i think i read (from YankeesChick) that Bonds would play for league minimum.. would you sign Bonds if he played for cheap or nothing?

Juan Pierre
Fuentes
Piazza or Sheff
Sabathia.

I don't think Bonds would fix this team's offensive problems at all. He's like 44 yrs old, and we don't even know how good he will be if we do sign him. HELL NO TO BARRY BONDS. Maybe trade for Xavier Nady or Jason Bay to play the outfield positions. Adam Dunn or carlos Lee would be better DH options than bonds.

Get off of Sabbathia already are you promoting him or something. Piazza is done he hasn't seen a ball for months. I was kidding I couldn't even bare hear barry's name at Yankee Stadium, gee. Sheffield are you serious? You must recall his grace. The only man worth anything was Johan and he's gone now you want to trade for Sabathia? This is basically wha the Yankees have been doing in the past getting the man that beat them. I even dare say Fuentes is overrated it's just the market is limited. I can't imagine his price since Boston and Tampa will persue him aswell.

The bullpen has been supar of late if they can keep this up for the second half it would be a huge boost.

Bryan Fuentes ERA 3.82, Kyle Farnsworths 3.79 ERA. With Kyle locking five more innings pitched. They both average a hit and a strikeout per inning pitched. Fuentes does pitch in a hiiters park buth the numbers are mirror matched.

It's frustrating to see this team struggle so much... we're missing Matsui and we may be missing Damon, keep that in mind. Matsui was having a great year. But this team has been awful with 2 outs and runners in scoring position, and it's hard to cheer for 'em! Still, they're the Yankees, they're a good team, they have a good offense... they're just slumping is all.
The answer is to call up Matt Carson or Colin Curtis or Juan Miranda. These guys could give this team that energy and that pop in the bat that Christian and Gardner don't have. Think about it!

Who cares if Gardner hasn't struck out that much or has worked the full count or has hit the ball hard when he makes outs? those things don't mean anything, least of all him filling all expectations of him. He hasn't fulfilled any expectations period!! Anyone thinking that he has fulfilled expectations has rocks in his head!!! If he has fulfilled expectations, then those expectations are none existent. He still strikes out too much and doesn't belong at the top of the order. He wasn't brought up to make outs almost every AB!

Curtis, Miranda, and Carson aren't ready for the majors despite putting up decent numbers.

Speed players like Gardner has isn't everything in baseball, it means less when they can't even get on base when the team can't take full advantage of it, something Gardner hasn't been able to do.

I think Nady, CC and/or Fuentes would be a good fiit for this team. Does anyone know what Fuentes's #'s are against lefties? (in fact, I really like nady)
What about Jose Guillen as a RT handed OF bat? I know he's a jerk, but it seems like more the trend lately to fit with a coach/front office guy.
I know, I'm reaching here....

Sheff and Piazza are pinch hitter/bench players. If we carry 3 catchers, one might as well hit beyond Posada.

Guillen just had a run in with the pitching coach in KC & he has hit well in the House. Nady would be a great edition to the outfield and I would imagine that the Pirates would listen to an offer. If this team is to get back into it (and frankly I am not sure of that) then management needs to be buying at the trade deadline.

The best move the Yankees can make is to shore up the middle of their lineup with a power bat. The Yanks can patch together a starting five and their is enough talent in the pen & AAA to get the ball to Rivera when needed. The Yankees are putting too much stress on the pitching staff by leaving so many runners in scoring position. Abreu, A-Rod, Giambi, Posada will not get the job done. The absence of Damon & Matsui further highlight their power outage. The only credible power bat is Barry Bonds...who cares if is 44 or 84. It has been reported that he is in excellent shape. Mussina, approaching fourty, was supposed to be washed up but he has outperformed all of our "great young pitching arms". The Yanks have absolutely nothing to loose by signing the most prolific, patient, power hitter of this generation; with out him there will be no post season. The Yanks will have to hop over at least three teams to have a chance to win the wild card. The Rays are for real and will only get better, the Red Sox will eventually get Ortiz back and make a giant push to win the division outright, The White Sox, Twins, and Tigers are playing good baseball and feature power strokers up and down their respective lineups...The Twins lead the majors in delivering, two out, clutch rbi...The Yanks lineup as currently constituted, simply does not match up with any of these teams. Damon was being charitable when he stated that the Yankees are not as athletic as some of the aforementioned competitors.

Abreu is terrible, he doesn't even make an effort when he's beated and he's not hitting. we have to get Damon healthy.

I feel sorry for Moose not making the All-star cut but looking at it...Rivera, Joe Nathan, Papelbon & K-Rod all deserve the call more (+ can help the AL with what it really needs, relief not 6/7 starters) and that leaves only Joe Saunders (12-4, 3.04 ERA) and Ervin Santana (9-3, 3.28 ERA) of the Angels who could have been left out by Francona.
Tough call. I'd have gone for Moose over Santana but well if only MM was more popular/respected by the players he might have got in.

How could you say Mussina isn't respected by the players? He's a really well liked guy around the league. I've never heard anything bad about him.
He has better #'s than santana-two more wins with an offense that is, well, offensive (Ha, I like that!)

When I say Mike doesn't have enough respect from the players, I mean relative to the ones who were voted into the All-star game by the players. He's no AJ Pierzynski for sure.
