The week it all begins
Since I'm on my way to Washington, D.C. this morning instead of George Steinbrenner Legends Field, let's keep this Roger Clemens-free for Monday. Here's a few stories that you should check out:
Spring optimism reigns for Derek Jeter, who is thankful that the Yankees have brought the same core from '07 back to have a crack at redemption. Anthony McCarron has the story in the Daily News.
Meanwhile, Dave Eiland is ready to roll in tackling his new assignment as the Yankees' pitching coach. But is this really a "no-win job" for Joe Girardi, as Don Mattingly said it would be in October? Pete Abraham takes a closer look.
By the way, my TiVo caught the latest Yankees Hot Stove on the YES Network. I have to say, I loved David Cone's pick of Scott Strickland as a dark-horse candidate to make the roster. He's in his second year coming off surgery and I think a lot of people have overlooked that signing, but in a year when the Yankee bullpen is wide open, Strickland's got as good a shot as any.
As I noted in the previous blog entry, Strickland's wearing No. 43 - same as another workhorse, Scott Proctor - and has a personality much in the same mold, a plus in New York. Expect him to stay in the running late into camp if he's healthy.
Have to say, I'm rather jealous of the rest of the Yankees beat, heading to the warmth of Tampa today and tomorrow. We'll come at you on Thursday from Legends Field after this brief Capitol Hill detour. In the meantime, I watched some of the Grammys while packing last night. Can anyone explain Amy Winehouse's appeal to me? I just don't get it.

I too like Cone's call on Strickland. He hit some road blocks in his career, but the talent is there. If he has a stron spring, he could wind up being a strong asset in the bullpen.

Well, Bryan, I don't think that bands I listen too, such as Hate Eternal and Decapitated are going to get a grammy anytime soon, so I don't even bother to watch it. I quit watching the grammys when they handed Jethro Tull a "best heavy metal album" grammy. JETHRO TULL IS NOT METAL!

Hi, Bryan!
The Hearings will be the final "Big Story" of the off-season, and I do think there will be some new details [to report on] that will make the front pages of the Newspapers!
It will be interesting to hear [especially] what Pettitte, McNamee, and Radomski have to say...since, we haven't heard their stories yet, live and in person, in front of the TV cameras. It will be must-see TV, and should be fun to cover a a reporter!...
Then, when it's all over, you are headed to Tampa, Florida, to cover Spring Training for the New York Yankees!...
I don't think it gets any better than that!
Have a good time in Florida, Bryan! ...
I enjoyed all your off-season Posts and Comments; and, I look forward to a great Season ahead !!!
A great ending to the final season at the old Yankee Stadium, will have the Yankees, and all Yankee fans celebrating the winning of the World Series - which will be the Yankees 27th World Championship!!!
I can't wait for the Season to start!
Take care, Bryan!

Correction...
Of sentence at the end of the second paragraph of my 11:28 a.m. comments...[just noticed it]...
Regarding Hearings, the sentence should be: "It [the Hearings] will be must-see TV, and should be fun to cover "By A Reporter" !!!
It's really cold here in New York! I'm looking forward to the Hot weather!...
Think Spring !!!

I think McCarron should've chosen a better picture than the on w/ Damon and Abreu. Jeter doesn't looked thrilled. Also, lets hope Cashman is right, "Last year was a blip. We're counting on Moose to have a bounce-back season," Cashman said. "He'll be one of our starters."

I thought the same thing about that Daily News photo. But like I always tell people (usually after I get an angry e-mail), the writers don't get to write the headline. Ditto for selecting the photos.

Did you read some of the comments on that Daily News Report? LOL. That one Met fan saying that Jeter has nothing left? That is rediculous! Leave it to a Met fan to throw a lousy haymaker like that while the Bronx Bombers continue to get all the accolades. I wonder how bitter it tastes when your team is doomed to be 2nd best no matter what they do?

I would imagine that that pic was taken during the playoffs. Can't imagine why anyone would have been upbeat during the 2007 ALDS. I was screaming at my TV for the whole series. I don't even want to know how pissed the players were!
