Nightfall at Legends Field
The Yankees' exhibition game against the University of South Florida can be deemed a success, as the home team rolled to a 11-4 victory. The lone downer was Kei Igawa, whose sixth inning left much to be desired -- flyout, walk, wild pitch, walk, strikeout, hit-by-pitch, grand slam, strikeout.
I chased down the young man who hit the grand slam, USF's Eric Baumann, and he's got a wonderful story to tell for the rest of his life. Baumann actually almost gave up baseball in '05 while playing for Duke when he needed shoulder surgery, but wanted to go out on his terms. Hitting a grand slam in a game against the New York Yankees? Sign me up.
The Yankees see their first MLB team of the spring tomorrow in Clearwater, Fla., which is an absolutely beautiful park. The outside structure is reminiscent of Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, although the cheesesteaks aren't quite as great. If you're going to the game, pack a light jacket -- it gets cold. But know that the Yankees are ready to get some innings under their belts.
"It's an enjoyable time getting the Spring Training games started," Joe Girardi said. "You look forward to it because you practice, practice, practice, but you want to play some games and see where you're at."

Definitely feels good to know there's some baseball going on. Can't wait til they start showing games on MLB.TV
Hey Bryan, I was curious what you thought about Hank Steinbrenner's comments about Red Sox Nation? I personally thought it was funny as ****, but there's alot of people up in arms about it. Either way, I can only hope that we can put our pitching where our mouth is, because they're really going to let us have it if we don't. But then again, it's not like they go easy on us to begin with.

Here's what I figure. The only people who are going to be offended by Steinbrenner's latest comments are, really, when you think about it, Red Sox fans.
That being the case, I'm not sure Steinbrenner cares much about offending them. It's not like he was ever going to run for mayor of Boston.
I don't particularly feel that it was necessary, but I'd need to see the context of the interview, which has yet to be released.
It does drum up a little controversy for a rivalry that never lacks. In the end, though, the Yankees are at a disadvantage. For the second time in four years, guess who's raising a championship flag while someone else is stuck on 26.
