Good evening from Safeco Field in Seattle, where the Yankees and Mariners will play the second game of this three-game series. Here are the quick hits from tonight’s Yankees notes —

  • The Yankees’ bullpen received reinforcements on Wednesday as right-hander Shawn Kelley was activated from the disabled list and left-hander David Huff was acquired from the Giants.

Kelley has not pitched in a big league game since May 6 due to a lumbar spine strain, but had no further issues in a pair of Minor League rehab assignments. Huff, who was with the Yankees last season, was obtained in exchange for cash considerations.

To create room for Kelley on the active roster, right-hander Matt Daley was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Manager Joe Girardi said that they chose to keep right-hander Jose Ramirez instead of Daley because Ramirez offers more distance.

Left-hander Wade LeBlanc was designated for assignment to clear space for Huff, who was 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA in 16 appearances for San Francisco this year and will be used as a multi-inning reliever who can offer about 45 pitches.

  • Carlos Beltran seemed to be amused by the attention being paid to his brief throwing session on Wednesday at Safeco Field, the first time he has aired out his right arm since being sidelined with a bone spur last month.

“I think everything went well; just 25 throws at 90 feet — I think you can do that too,” Beltran told a group of reporters crowded around his locker in the visiting clubhouse.

  • Yankees manager Joe Girardi noted that he has seen flashes of growing maturity from Dellin Betances, who coughed up a lead last night but recovered to keep the game tied.

“I think what you’ve seen is, if he does happen to give up a run, he’s able to stop it there and it doesn’t snowball,” Girardi said. “If he’s struggling a little bit with his command, he finds it quicker than maybe he used to.”

  • Jacoby Ellsbury has a 14-game hitting streak since May 26, marking the longest active streak in the Majors and tied for the fourth longest in the American League this season.
