Game 27: Yankees vs. Mariners

After last night’s rainout, the Yankees and Mariners will finish up what has turned into a two-game series tonight, with Robinson Cano’s club now scheduled to pop back into the Bronx on June 2 to make up the postponement.

The Yankees skipped David Phelps and are giving the ball to Hiroki Kuroda tonight, while the Mariners are staying in rotation and starting Roenis Elias. That gives the Yanks a break, as they’ll miss Felix Hernandez, who is instead going up against the Astros tomorrow in Houston. Jacoby Ellsbury is back in the Yankees’ lineup, as three days off have helped out his sore left hand.

The game will be televised on the YES Network and the MLB Network, and can be heard on WFAN.

Here are tonight’s lineups:

MARINERS (11-14)

Michael Saunders CF
Stefen Romero RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Corey Hart DH
Kyle Seager 3B
Justin Smoak 1B
Dustin Ackley LF
Mike Zunino C
Brad Miller SS

Roenis Elias LHP (1-2, 3.54)

YANKEES (15-11)

Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Derek Jeter SS
Carlos Beltran RF
Alfonso Soriano DH
Mark Teixeira 1B
Brian McCann C
Yangervis Solarte 3B
Brett Gardner LF
Brian Roberts 2B

Hiroki Kuroda RHP (2-2, 5.28)

I care, but I’m also not surprised. It’s been obvious since before the start of the season that this team will have trouble scoring runs. There are red flags all over the place when it comes to this team. Right now this team will have a hard time making it as a WC team if it doesn’t upgrade the talent it currently has on its roster.

after 2 pathetic losses to a poor team there are no other comments here but mine? Wake up Yankee fans. Did you not see what I saw? You don’t care? The average run count is down about 2 runs over the past few games from what it was in the first 20 games. Guys just aren’t hitting. Maybe Girardi needs to change the lineup to get the guys going. Has he got them placed in the right order for maximum success?

I’m not going to watch any more yankee games until they start winning again. It’s too frustrating watching the kind of baseball I watched the last two games against an underachieving team.

what would the result have been if we had had King Felix pitching tonight instead of a rookie?

this is a friggin joke, losing 2 to Seattle. Was this attempt by the Yankees to make Cano feel good with a sweep? I think what we’re seeing now is the real yankee team this year. What we saw in the first 25 games was not the real yankee team. Now it’s beginning to show its true colors and other teams are going to get on a hot streak and blow by the Yankees in the standings. I hope players and coaches are not happy with this series and I hope I don’t hear a bunch of stupid excuses from Girardi. This team is aging obviously and its a streaky team offensively, some nights good, some not. There’s got to be more consistency, with pitching and with hitting. And there are too many errors in the field as well. Jeter strikes out 3 times and commits an error? I’m not a happy fan tonight believe me.

what the hell is with this team. Losing a series to Seattle? Where’s the offense gone? Can’t hit a rookie pitcher. This should have been a no contest with a veteran pitcher like Kuroda up against a rookie. Since all this drama with Pineda and Nova having surgery and the uncertainty of starting rotation this team seems to have gone into a funk. It better come out of it soon and they’re up against the Rays next and if they lose that series or get swept the whole eastern division takes on a new look with the Yankees behind looking up. Obviously what we saw in the first 25 games was something of a mirage. Are we now seeing the real Yankees?

glad Ellsbury is back in the lineup. He has been an important contributor at the plate and defensively this year. I hope Kuroda has a stronger outing tonight than he had last game. The question mark for the next few weeks is how will Phelps do filling in for Pineda. We need to get some strong innings from Kuroda tonight and some timely and effective hitting especially with guys on base. Need to at least split this shortened series.
