Spring Game 24: Yankees at Red Sox

The Yankees are on the bus heading south, paying a visit to play the Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla. Here’s a fun fact you might not know about the spring home of the Red Sox: that ‘replica’ Green Monster in left field is actually the same one that stood at Fenway Park in Boston for almost three decades.

The Red Sox plucked it out of storage from a facility in South Dakota when they built the new Spring Training park. So yes, that means if you think about it, the Green Monster the Yankees will be taking aim at tonight is the same one that Bucky Dent’s 1978 home run flew over. That’s kind of cool. Tonight’s game will be televised on YES and ESPN, and can be heard on WFAN.

Here are the lineups:

Ichiro Suzuki CF
Brendan Ryan SS
Eduardo Nunez 3B

Also scheduled to pitch: Matt Daley, Chris Leroux, Yoshinori Tateyama, Fred Lewis.

Ooooops, forgot the Yanks signed Ryan to contract, so never mind that last part of statement.

If Ryan is hurt or only slightly injured, the Yanks would surely sign him. They should put up a sign saying Young and Healthy need not apply

Solarte isn’t that young, he’ll be turning 27 this July and is a middle infielder, nothing more, very little experience playing LF. Although, having a guy as young as him on this roster is refreshing, and none of the backups like Ryan, Nunez and Anna have really stood out. He’s not exactly a top prospect, he’s been with three different organizations already, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him later in the year if someone gets hurt or struggles.

IF Ryan hadn’t gotten hurt, Ryan most likely would have been the odd man out of the picture.

Excuse me I misspoke not Sizemore, Ryan.

Hello Ron,

Rob correctly pointed out that Solarte is not on the 40 man roster. Unless Sizemore goes on 60 day DL, they would have to make move or Solarte goes to Scranton.

Solarte starting in left field is an interesting and positive note. His performance this spring most definitely deserves close scrutiny. It seems that he is young ,healthy and in addition, he can hit. That is quite unique in this injury prone organization. Giving up on Ichiro would be a mistake. He needs to be used more sparingly. Oh and then there is Cervelli, whom the Yankees will for sure trade and come to regret it.
