Game 22: Yankees vs. Red Sox

It’s always fun when the Yankees and the Red Sox get together, even if it is only in a Grapefruit League game. We’ll get to see it twice this week, as the Yanks will return the favor by making that long drive down to Fort Myers on Thursday.

Some quick notes: Francisco Cervelli is hitting .480 (12-for-25) this spring with six RBIs and a team-leading three homers … Yangervis Solarte has batted .517 (15-for-29) with two homers and eight RBIs, leading the Yankees in hits and RBIs … Ivan Nova leads all Yankees pitchers with 16 strikeouts (13 1/3 innings).

Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez was in the Yankees’ clubhouse this morning. He has been working with the younger pitchers over at the Minor League complex. He still looks like he can pitch — high socks and everything. The first thing he did was ask where Derek Jeter’s locker was.

Joe Girardi had a busy morning of roster trimming. The Yankees have not officially announced any of the moves, but there was a lot of bag-packing going on. Jose Pirela, Pete O’Brien, Chase Whitley, Mark Montgomery, Robert Coello and Brian Gordon all appeared to be heading to Minor League camp.

14 days until Opening Day, April 1 at Houston.

Today’s game is on YES/ESPN and WFAN at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Looks like a split squad for Borston and we have mostly starters.
