Spring Game 11: Yankees vs. Tigers

A big arm of the Yankees’ past and one – they hope, at least – of the Yankees’ future will be on display tonight at George M. Steinbrenner Field, as the Tigers come to town for a 7:05 p.m. ET contest.

Detroit is scheduled to use Joba Chamberlain in relief against his former club, but the Yankees will be far more interested to see Michael Pineda’s relief outing. Pineda is scheduled to follow Hiroki Kuroda and should enter for the fourth inning. The Yankees are looking to get three innings out of Pineda tonight in his spring debut.

There’s no TV or radio coverage tonight. Here are the lineups:

I take it you missed his most recent outing? Too bad, his stuff was excellent.

Don’t get delusional it was only one appearance, BIG DEAL!!!

Emphasis on delusional?

Just for the one person who thinks Michael Young is in the cards for the Yankees or the belief that Grandy has signed with the Yanks. We both know who I’m talking about, don’t we bpark,I mean rcgolf.

There’s a long way to go in ST. Pineda hasn’t proven anything yet. Actually there is no shoo-in for the #5 spot, Phelps only had 12 starts last year and was generally mediocre at best and a mediocre starter, Warren has no starts but was a little better than Phelps, and Pineda is nothing more than a huge question mark considering his injury history and lack of IP the last couple of years.

Wouldn’t mind giving up a guy like Phelps and a prospect (most likely a catcher) for someone like Weeks. He’s far better than the overaged garbage this team has at 2B right now.

Pineda showed he could pitch out of the pen or be the 5th starter. He is actually better than Nova but the rotation with have Nova at 3 or 4. Phelps looks to be getting dealt.

Soooooooo I see that Fatboy Joba pitched well today. Who cares the guy is still a BUM!!!!

here we go again. Another relief pitcher, Thornton gives up a triple and 2 runs in the 7th and another game in jeopardy for the Yankees. Spoil the efforts of Kuroda and Pineda. This has happened too many times this spring season. Obviously some of these bull pen guys aren’t going to be around come the regular season. They brought in Thornton as another lefty out of the bull pen. Doesn’t look like he’s going to get the job done. Of course the Tigers leave in some of their regulars in the 7th inning hoping to get some runs and win this game. Looks like the strategy is working. Friggin annoying.

great showing by Kuroda and Pineda. Let’s hope they stay healthy and keep pitching this way. Looks like Pineda will be the 5th starter unless he screws up badly for the rest of the spring season. Yankees look to have a great starting rotation, again if they all stay healthy. And Warren and Phelps and Nuno will fit in nicely in relief. Robertson pitched a good inning as well. Nice to see Beltran “belt” another home run. The team seems to be rounding out and building some chemistry. Still some spring season to go but encouraging so far. Hope Jete and Tex stay healthy along with Brian Roberts.
