Spring Game 3: Yankees vs. Pirates

Derek Jeter is scheduled to play in his first game of any kind since Sept. 7 today, as the Yankees open their home Grapefruit League schedule this afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Today’s game will be televised on YES and also can be heard on WFAN — and, of course, you can access those via MLB.com. First pitch from George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. is set for 1:05 p.m. ET.

Here are the lineups:

This and that: Eduardo Nunez is feeling better after a bout with food poisoning. He expects to be on tomorrow’s trip to play the Tigers in Lakeland. In case you’re wondering, the salmon at the Nordstrom restaurant is suspect. … David Herndon threw live batting practice this morning. Brian Gordon, Bryan Mitchell, Shane Greene, Vidal Nuno and Matt Thornton all threw bullpens.

Just getting our legs.

You’re right Robert. But isn’t Pittsburgh in the same boat? Playing their prospects and hopefuls that will end up eventually in the minors? it’s not only the Yankees with numbers in the 80s and 90s.

third game of spring for pete’s sake, so we got smacked down but it’s hard to really be bothered about it when you’ve got guys in the lineup wearing frickin radio stations on their backs! Now batting for the yankees 98.1 Smooth Jazz FM… The number 62 jersey just isn’t much use though, Joba must’ve cursed it!

a dismal showing all-round against a rather mediocre team. Poor pitching except for the Japanese pitcher, poor hitting. Out hit 13-6. Gave up several extra base hits and lose 8-2 even though Pittsburgh had 3 errors. I’m beginning to feel like I did last year about this team already. I hope they prove me wrong.

Not that concerned yet but sure hope to see some progress over the next month in all areas. As for the Coelo guy I don’t expect to see him on the opening day roster.

Who is this friggin Coelo guy? What scrap heap did the Yankees get him off of? Close game and the guy gives up 5 runs? Yeh, yeh, spring training and all that crap. This bull pen so far doesn’t look very good. And we’re not getting much offense either even from our starters. I’m watching the Blue Jays here on TV winning their second game of the pre season against the Phillies. No comparison so far. This could be another long season. I haven’t seen anything yet with either the pitching or hitting to get me too excited. Hopefully something happens soon to turn that around.

It’s early in spring training but the Yankees bats need to start to heat up soon as does the bullpen. 1 run is not going to win many games. It’s a long season and hopefully the team will come together without major injuries by the time the regular season starts. Team is still a work in progress. Like the Boss I don’t like the Yankees losing pre season games but I know there are many fans who care less about the pre season. I still think it builds momentum into the regular season when the team dominates in the pre season.
