Granderson still “a serious part” of Yankees’ plans

aug 26 grandersonCurtis Granderson may have declined a qualifying offer from the Yankees, but his career in pinstripes is not necessarily complete. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Post that Granderson “is a serious part” of the club’s offseason blueprint, and that they could retain the left-handed hitting outfielder.

“We remain interested,” Cashman told the newspaper. “He is not a [fall-back] option.”

Yankees president Randy Levine said this week that Cashman is currently engaged with “five or six” free agents. The club is believed to have had contact with representatives for outfielders Carlos Beltran and Shin-Soo Choo, as Cashman has said that he would like to upgrade an outfield alignment that currently projects to field Alfonso Soriano, Brett Gardner, Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki.

Granderson was limited to 61 games this past season. His agent, Matt Brown, said during the GM Meetings that Granderson is “absolutely open” to coming back to the Yankees; the Mets and White Sox have also been reported to be interested.

McCann is closing in on a five-year, $80MM+ deal with the Yankees, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Yanks would be making a big mistake going after Shin Shoo Choo, he’s overrated and will be overpriced for a player who has done nothing but put up decent stats.

Crashman should start looking at players like Ellsbury and McCann. The Of is filled with strikeout machines who won’t hit much for an average, and McCann could serve as the bridge to Austin Romine (if he can actually stay healthy) who is seen as the catcher of the future of this team.

while other teams are working on acquiring free agents or making trades all we are hearing about the Yankees is this stupid hearing for ARod which is a real soap opera and that’s the way ARod has played it ever since he came to the Yankees. Controvery follows him around. I wish the Yankees could make a clean break with him and move on. Yankee fans need to hear something more than the ARod saga or a lot of speculation as to who we might and might not get. Until the contract is signed and finalized speculation means diddley squat.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Hope that doesn’t happen to Cashman again in this off season. Last season Cashman fiddled until all the good free agents were gobbled up and he got the leftovers who were over the hill. Hopefully that won’t happen again.David Freese gone to the Angels who was one of the players Yankees were thinking about for 3rd base to back up ARod if he doesn’t return and hopefully he won’t.

Crashman has been fiddling badly for years, bringing on old, FA’s who are past their prime and are most likely injury prone players, and can’t help this team in any significant way. There’s no reason to think Crashman will change his ways since he has an unbreakable man crush on those type of players.

Who would you recommend replace Cashman? Hal? Cashman is the only voice of reason in the building.

Not that I know what the voice of reason is

The fact that I think that Cashman is a good GM when all the facts and common sense says otherwise proves that.

Crash man is the only voice of reason? He’s the one who put this team in the bad position it’s in now with bad deals and bad FA pickups, not to mention the fact that the minor league system is pathetic. SHEEEEESH!!
