Derek Jeter set to join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday

Derek Jeter will begin yet another Minor League rehabilitation assignment on Thursday, joining the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for their 7:05 p.m. ET home game against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Jeter is recovering from a Grade 1 strain of his right calf, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jeter is slated to play five innings at shortstop. Jeter worked out in Tampa, Fla. again on Wednesday and ran the bases, according to Girardi, who said that he expects Jeter will play at least two games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

“As I’ve said, we’ll just go day-by-day and see how he responds each day,” Girardi said.

It is possible, but not a sure bet, that Jeter could re-join the Yankees on Saturday at Tropicana Field.

It REALLY is too bad that over 162 games Kuroda has gone into a pitching slump. He has been the Yankees most effective starter and now when they are making a run he is running on empty.

Obviously this is not a typical Kuroda outing. The Rays are really seeing his pitches tonight. The Rays are a great hitting ball club and have a great pitching staff as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Rays finish on top of the Division. Yankees have 1 hit tonight in 4 innings. They don’t give Kuroda very good run support any night. Do they have the capacity to come back from a 6-1 lead? I would have said “no way” a month ago, but with this present team it’s possible. Not very likely, but possible. This is one of the teams the Yankees are going to have to pass to win the division and to get a wild card spot. They can only lose about 10 games from hereon in to get the number of wins Girardi claims is needed to get a playoff spot.

A good win and a good sweep of a rather weak team. The Yankees have had the Jays number this year. Well we’re inching closer to a wild card spot. Who knows the miracle might happen. It’s too bad we brought in Soriano and Reynolds and Huff so late but better late than never I guess. And we’ve got a couple of the injured regulars back. Now that ARod has asked his attorneys and agents to simmer down maybe the Yankees can concentrate on baseball instead of the Arod distraction.

The Jays pitchers have broken a forearm and a hand this year. Forearm by the guy pitching today, Happ. That was a bad call at first base by the ump. Rodriguez beat the call I think but was called out. Could have had at least 1 run there. Looks like we’re going to end up with a low scoring game again. How do you fracture a guy’s hand throwing 80 mph. I guess if it hits the wrong spot you can. it certainly swelled up in a hurry. Going to miss a pretty versatile and steady infielder the rest of the season.

The classless Red Sox know how to beat the Yankees, just keep throwing at them. You break enough hands, elbows et-al, eventually you’ll be playing against minor leaguers.

I love Derek Jeter, but I suspect this is his last year in Baseball. His body just can’t do what his brain is tell it.

I get so damn annoyed with pitchers who hit batters and put them out of the game and often put them out for a much longer time. The Yankees have had more serious injuries this year with batters being hit by pitches. And I don’t think often it’s an accident. They’re trying to brush back hitters who have had success against the team and end up hitting them instead of brushing them back. Now Nix hurt and who knows for how long. Damn disturbing and these guys who do it don’t even seem to be that sorry about it. And on the pitching chart it was obvious that the third pitch to Reyes was a strike whatever he thought it was.

why is Warren pitching tonight? Because of the doubleheader yesterday? He doesn’t look very confident after 1 inning. Hopefully he’ll settle down. Yankees need every win they can get if they have any hope of getting a wild card.
