A-Rod cheered after first homer; passes Musial on RBI list

NEW YORK — Alex Rodriguez connected for his first home run of the season on Sunday, slugging a solo second-inning blast to left field off the Tigers’ Justin Verlander.

For Rodriguez, it was his 648th career home run and also accounted for his 1,951st career RBI. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that moves Rodriguez past Stan Musial for sole possession of fifth place on baseball’s all-time list.

The 38-year-old third baseman is playing in his fifth game of the season, having appealed a 211-game suspension from Major League Baseball or for violations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and the Basic Agreement.

Rodriguez has been receiving mixed reactions from the Yankee Stadium crowd after his name is announced. He heard loud cheers while rounding the bases after the home run.

Rodriguez entered play on Sunday with three hits in his first 15 at-bats. Rodriguez missed most of this season while rehabbing from left hip surgery performed during the offseason.

Arod is a cancer needs to be removed

I agree seeknay. Throw Joe out of the game and don’t thrown Dempster out? BS. Intentionally throwing at ARod no doubt in the world. Now if CC hits someone even accidentally he could get thrown out of the game. I hope CC plunks someone later in the game just before he’s ready to come out. And the prime candidate is certainly Papi. But as long as ARod is playing this year with all the crap coming out from Yankee management and ARod’s lawyers how can this team hope to focus to make a wild card run. It’s going to continue to be a soap opera to the end. And Arod is selfish for playing knowing how much of a distraction he’s going to be to the team.

yankeecanada I have NO use for Arod. I have posted time and time again that the Yankees need to rid themselves of him. But what the ex Cub did nothing was inexcuseable. EVERY time FATASS gets in the batters box I’d throw at him. I’d make damn sure they pay for this. That umpire was a GUTLESS Pr*ck. Dempster should have been tossed. And what the hell is wrong with #13, if that asshole would have thrown at me I would have thrown my bat at him.

One more item is everyone as sick of CC Sabathia as I am. The guy is NOT an ace. time to move him.

Everyone on this blog knows my thoughts about Arod. I want this guy gone. But what Dempster did tonight was BS. I guarantee, if Girardi has any gonads. the next trip the sox take the Yankee Stadium that FATASS DH is going to get it. I mean hit him in the shoulder, Joe. You throw at one of ours I’m going to plant one of yours. Not an outfielder, not your two bit catcher, I’m taking out that FATASS Leaner. Send a message Girardi.

this whole season has been a soap opera for the Yankees. No wonder they’re in the mess they’re in. Hopefully before next season they can right the ship and make some good baseball decisions about the team going forward.

interesting how the media and baseball world in general is so soft on Miguel Tejada but beat the crap out of Arod for really doing the same thing.

can anyone tell me why it’s Overbay again tonight and not Reynolds? Reynolds is a power hitter and is a good first baseman. If Yankees ever hope getting wild card spot they’ve got to beat the Sox tonight. They can’t afford to go 9 1/2 behind again. And the Rays won today.

This one had the feeling of a loss right from the beginning. Bases loaded and no runs. Kuroda wasn’t as dominant as usual but the defence behind him sure didn’t help him. And the offense wasn’t there today. Game rather lacklustre and that’s how the Yankees played. Looked like they were either tired or didn’t care. Most games are won in the early innings and it never happened for the Yankees today. If you don’t win the game in the series behind Kuroda it’s hard to win the others. CC has to be his better self tomorrow, not the one who has pitched the last few games. I don’t know why Girardi went with Overbay today at 1st instead of Reynolds. Reynolds should be the starter and Overbay should be in the support role to give Reynolds a break.

Claiborne sent to the minors instead of Joba? obviously something in Joba’s contract where the Yankees can’t send him down. Makes no sense otherwise. He’s gotta go before next year along with his sidekick Hughes. The Yankees really messed him up last year with moving him from starting pitcher to bull pen and back and putting a cap on his number of innings and pitches. Totally wrong approach that has helped to get him to where he is. His cockiness and swagger at the beginning has shrunk to where now he looks like he’s scared to death about being called in. He’s not even safe putting him into a 10-3 ballgame. Pitches half an inning and he gets taken out. Maybe he can catch on somewhere else and do well. But won’t happen with the Yankees. His time is overdue to move on.

q comedy of errors for the Yankees in the 4th inning today. What was Lyle thinking? Obviously should have gone home with a slow Ortiz at 3rd. Wouldn’t have got the double play anyway. And it stretched the inning out so Kuroda had to pitch way more pitches than he should have and now will have to bring the bull pen in early. And one or two awful calls by the umpire, especially that one at 3rd base. The idiot should have been in position to see the tag. Can’t wait for replay to kick in. I guess you can’t win them all especially against the Sox however the Yankees have put themselves in a position where they have to win almost all of them to get even the 2nd wild card.

Sat there tonight watching the game vs the redsox with tears in my eyes. Andy pitching like it’s Game 7 in the WS. For one night in a nightmare season Andy reminded me of what it is to be a NY Yankee fan. Thank you Andy, THE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a great game for Hughes but not a terrible game. Yankees shot their bolt offensively in the first 3 games of the series. Nothing left.No run support for Hughes. And Girardi made a bad decision to leave Logan in after having walked one guy and loading the bases. He should have brought in a righty to face Nelson but not Joba because you see what he did when he did finally come in. Yankees game to lose today. No offense. I guess 3 out of 4 is not bad against a strong lineup that the Angels have. The series against the Red Sox, the Rays, the Jays and the O’s are really going to decide whether the Yankees squeak into the second wild card spot. They have too many teams to jump over ahead of them. the yanks have done better lately but too little, too late. Big overhaul for next year, mix of good prospects and trades/free agents and the H & H boys lifting the salary cap.

Any game that features Hughes as a starter and Joba in relief spells DISASTER for the Yankees. Frankly the BEST thing that will come out of this season is that the Yankees will be RID of these two BUSTS!!!

In a galaxy far away, Aaron Boone never played basketball and the Yankees never traded Soriano. Alex R. ends up with the Red Sox and their fans toss him into the Charles. The Yankees win at least one of those world series that the Sox won and wouldn’t it be nice to say—–“Poor Red Sox—stuck with you know who.”

The Yankees wont sign Kuroda or Cano they won’t spend the father’s money, all they are concern with is the 189 cap. They should take a lesson from the Red Sox last year, get rid of this age old players and bring in some exciting new blood, that’s what I say,

I am so sick of the A Rod news, He should of been Banned period, these record will not count he is only 14 RBI behind Babe Ruth, that is a crime, He get additional money when he hits 660 what the hey, he is not a legitimate Yankee, get a third baseman thru waivers and get him out of here, This guy is in it for the money folks not the Pride of the Yankees

If it wasn’t for the guy in Detroit, Kuroda would win the Cy Young hands down. Note to Cashman and the two IDIOT owners, RESIGN KURODA!!!!!

This is painful to watch. ARod is totally useless at the plate. Hits into 2 DPs. he comes back to the dug out with that smug chewing gum look, drinking out of a cup yucking it up with a player next to him. He should be hanging his head in the corner somewhere. Overconfident, arrogant ass who gets way too much attention in the media. Somehow Yankee management has to find a way to force him to retire or only pay him a portion of his salary going forward or find another team to take him. I’d rather take my chances with Nix on 3rd than ARod. And Girardi has him batting clean up. What’s that all about? He’s one of the weakest hitters in the lineup now, next to Stewart.

Lets be fair here, I wouldn’t go up against Miguel Cabrera unless I had a bazooka – even then I’d still paint the corners, he’s just a flat out great hitter, Mo’s pitch caught too much of the plate but that’s what good hitters do! Fortunately we got away with it last night, he may have 3 blown saves in a row, but if I’m up by one in the bottom of the 9th there’s still no one in baseball now or ever that I’d rather have on the mound.
.
As for the other guy, well, sorry folks, I know he’s a Yankee, but I won’t be counting his home runs – not when there’s significant enough doubt over the legitimacy of them. (heck, not even doubt, he’s already admitted juicing from 01-03) Sooner this arbitration over the suspension gets done the better far as I’m concerned, because until then (and even after then) he’s the freak show dominating the press which is a damn shame when you’ve got guys doing more than he is. We should all be talking about Gardners mammoth shot or Soriano’s 2000th hit, instead we’re talking about arguably the shortest homer of the bunch because the other guy hit it.

I’m no fan of Cashman but MOST of the blame for this squad falls on the shoulders of Stu and his brother Pid the owners of this ballclub. Those two saddled Cashman and the Yankees with Aroid’s contract and orders of below $189 million salary cap. Thus you have the team you have. Stu and his brother Pid are CLUELESS when it comes to running this team.

A-bods homerun is of course good for the team, but he will never legitimately pass Stan musial or anyone else, so the hell with a-bods stats.

Hey Yankee Canada.. Mo is oldnow retiring and just perhaps his best is behind him. Robertson will not be able to do the job Rivera has done. He is good but not great..
Mo pitched to Cabrera either because he was instructed to do so, or because he wanted another shot.Wells was the pinch hitter as there is no one else. When will everyone start to point the finger at Cashman for his totally inept ability to do the job for this team.Wells as a pinch hitter is as telling as anything indicating the lack of management skill of Cashman.

what the hell is going on with Mo? All the celebration, focus getting to him? Maybe just as well it’s his last year. Losing his dominance. Hopefully Robertson will be able to replace him. And how often do Yankees hitters strike out in critical situations? Wells pinch hits and strikes out. A sure win going into the 9th again and now it’s a crap shoot. Why does Mo pitch to Cabrera in the 9th with the game on the line? Pitch around him or intentionally walk him. Don’t give him pitches across or near the plate. He killed Mo the last time. Why is Mo doing it again? Bad decision.

Pettitte 63 pitches after 3 innings. He’s not the pitcher he has been and probably never will be. Obviously his last year. Both he and CC, the two lefty starters on the team are really struggling. Sad, but true, The beginning of the end I think for both pitchers, more so Andy than CC. Will the Yankees be able to win this series. The Tigers are a powerful club with Verlander pitching. It’s hard to play against the big boys with the kind of team we have this year.
