Twins give Mariano Rivera a “Chair of Broken Dreams”

We have a new leader in the clubhouse for ‘Most Creative Mariano Rivera Farewell Gift.’ In a pre-game ceremony tonight, the Minnesota Twins gave Rivera a rocking chair made out of broken bats. According to Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, several of the bats were broken by Rivera himself over the years, including one of the Kirby Puckett models.

The Twins also made a $10,000 donation to the Mariano Rivera Foundation. The chair was Gardenhire’s idea, according to the Twins. (Photo credit: @Twins)

What a commendable idea, from a class act, Gardenhire’s tribute to a great pitcher, both are assets to each of their organizations!
In a day when so much of what you hear with big contracts and even bigger ego’s are the daily grind of negative news, not so here, it’s refreshing to have these moments that make you glad to be a fan and supporter of the game! It’s nice to stand proud of the actions, equal competitor’s to share this moment of an opposing team to commemorate the greatness of Marino Rivera by presenting him with this rocking chair so appropriate to “The Closer”, of this last decade for sure, if not of all time!

Nova was a workhorse tonight and deserves a spot in the rotation now. GREAT win. IF Cashman and the S sons were smart they would pickup BOTH Michael Young and Justin Morneau before the trade deadline. Those two plus Jeter and Granderson would put the Yankees in position for a playoff run.

Look at the yankee lineup. What do you expect? Old retreads and AA wannabes who aren’t ready for the majors. Teams like the O’s and the Sox and the Jays when they get behind have the fire power to get back into the game in a hurry with a couple of homers. That used to be the Yankees remember? The Bronx bombers! Now it’s the Bronx Bust. When the Yankees are losing past the 7th inning they seldom come back to win. The game is over.

I feel it! Some may relish the moment.
I say to those who question the enduring organization of the Yankees enjoy it while you can.
Not sure where you stand, but it’s obvious there is some brewing anxiety s with the choice words,
like retreads, and AA wannabe’s.
They are in a tough situation having two starters hoping to soon return, and take note would start when well on any team, at the sunsets of their careers, Jeter, and Rodriguez coming off of major injuries if well can’t be considered retreads!
If anything, words like legends, hall of famers needless to say, , “In a league of the Best of the Best!”

clubs keep putting out lefties on the mound knowing that the Yankees have too many lefties in their lineup. Woefully lacking in switch hitters right now. We’re dismal against lefties. Gardner now has 3 strikeouts tonight. And sadly we don’t have much bench strength to substitute. We’re really lacking in many areas with this lineup. Pitching hasn’t been the real issue. It’s hitting and offense. We’ve really got to address this in the off season and the steinbrenners need to open their wallets. We’ve got too much cap space tied up with very few players who aren’t contributing this year due to age and injuries.

Nova pitching well but again so far no run support. Beat up on the Twins who really are a bad club but beating teams like the O’s and the Red Sox not so easy. If you can’t beat the top teams you aren’t going to get to the playoffs. Will this team be any better when Granderson and Jeter and ARod are back? They’ve missed so much of the season to get their timing back and to feel comfortable in the field is going to be a challenge. And there’s always the risk of being reinjured. Cervelli now pushed back again. The coaching staff has done well to help this B team play as well as they have but let’s face it they’re not going to win the world series and they’ll be very lucky to get into a wild card position.

God I hope by the end of month Fatso Joba is pitching elsewhere. He wore out his welcome a long time ago. Both the Yankees and him need to move on. He’s a disaster and will NEVER be any better with this team. Send him to the Cubs.
