Pettitte goes for Yankees strikeout record tonight

Andy Pettitte needs one strikeout to tie Whitey Ford’s franchise record of 1,957 strikeouts, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, and he’ll try for that punchout and several more tonight as the Yankees open a four-game series against the Twins at Target Field.

Here are the pitching matchups for the series here in Minneapolis as the Yankees try to snap a five-game losing streak that has seen them dip into fourth place in the American League East, 6 1/2 games behind the first-place Red Sox:

July 1: LHP Andy Pettitte (5-6, 4.22) vs. LHP Scott Diamond (5-7, 5.40), 8:10 p.m. ET

July 2: RHP Phil Hughes (3-7, 4.82) vs. RHP Samuel Deduno (4-2, 3.32), 8:10 p.m.ET

July 3: LHP CC Sabathia (8-6, 4.15) vs. RHP P.J. Walters (2-4, 6.03), 8:10 p.m. ET

July 4: RHP David Phelps (5-5, 4.95) vs. RHP Kyle Gibson (1-0, 3.00), 12:10 p.m. ET

pretty depressing eh? Think management reads these blogs/tweets? Not likely. Anyway, it gives us a chance to vent and let off some steam. One game 10 runs, next game 1. That’s the problem. No consistent offense or scoring runs. Just ain’t got the horses. I think it would be better for the team if the twin H’s, Hal and Hank sold the team and buy something they’re interested in and let a baseball person like Joe Torre buy the Yankees(or someone like him).

Wow, here’s something new tonight, the offense actually pulled a pitcher’s can out of the fire after putting this team in the hole yet again. At this point Pettitte is no better than guys like Hughes and Joba. Almost every one of his starts have been bad ones.Pettitte hasn’t stayed one season too long, hehas stayed three seasons too long. As the past two seasons have proven he can’t go a entire season without suffering an injury. His deteriorating skills don’t help the fact that he has always been a hittable pitcher. Just one ,ore player you don’t have to stick a fork in to know he is done. This entire team is one pathetic mess withnohelp in sight whether it be via FA or the farm system.

This team has tanked and are mailing in the rest of the year. All I can say is that the tw IDIOT owners and the GM better not scapegoat and blame Girardi for this mess. This team is BAD and Girardi should not be blamed for the MESS caused by two IDIOT & CHEAP owners and a GM that NEEDS a swift kick in the ass.

Passed Whitey Ford’s strikeout record which is great, but not vintage Andy tonight and we probably won’t see the Andy we’ve known the past several years anymore. Now Girardi sends out Joba and he starts with 1 strike and 5 balls. Man this is a sad-sack team. Enough to make a true Yankee fan cry!

Looks like Cano is taking the team on his shoulders offensively tonight. Can’t win very much if only 1 guy shows up every night. If you can’t beat the Minnesota team who is struggling who can you beat? The Rays are winning. Fortunately the Red Sox are not playing, or the O’s. 42 pitches for Andy to get out of the 1st inning and gave up 3 runs. Seems to be that Andy has been going in later games. His best days are obviously behind him like a lot of other guys on this team
