Yankees shuffle roster for Angels series

After playing 18 innings in yesterday’s
game in Oakland, Kevin Youkilis was asked how he was feeling. His answer was essentially that he felt OK at the moment, but the real test would be how he felt in the morning.

Apparently, it wasn’t good. The Yankees have placed Youkilis back on the disabled list among a flurry of roster moves this afternoon, as his back issues have again knocked him out of commission.

Adam Warren’s reward for yesterday’s terrific relief outing was a trip to Triple-A, and we’ll get to see Chris Bootcheck and Thomas Neal in uniform for the Yanks this weekend.

Here is the full rundown from the Yankees’ announcement:

Today the Yankees signed RHP Chris Bootcheck and OF Thomas Neal to Major League contracts and selected them from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre…optioned RHP Adam Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre…placed INF Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list with lumbar strain…transferred INF Eduardo Nunez to the 60-day disabled list (eligible for reinstatement on 7/5/13)…outrighted LHP Cesar Cabral to Double-A Trenton.

Bootcheck will wear No. 34 and Neal will wear No. 22.

The Yankees 40-man roster currently stands at 40.

yank: Hope you won’t have to eat your words about the Jays further into the season. They are moving the right way right now and the Yankees are moving the wrong way. The Jays need one or two more good starters. Yankees gave up on Ching Ming Wang and look at the game he pitched for the Jays. Went 7 innings and won the game.

Not right now they won’t – with Tex’s wrist situation no team would touch him with a bargepole and that’s before they get to thinking “he’s owed X over Y years”.

not home today to see the game on TV or gameday. Couldn’t believe up 6 runs in the 9th and allow 5 runs and almost lose the game? What’s with Robertson? And the last two outings haven’t been good for Mo but probably would have done better if he had been called in after CC was taken out in the 9th. Not a good decision on Girardi’s part. Is this the start of a string of a wins? Sure hope so because the division is getting awfully tight and the Jays are making some noise. Explosive offensive club right now. Wish we had a couple of them. How about trading Tex for
Encarnacion? Would be great for us but I don’t believe the Jays would even think of it.

JAys have sucked offensively most of this season. One of the most overrated offenses in the majors, and the Jays are this year’s biggest bust with a losing record. Only recently has their offense gotten going a little bit, their offense still ranks near as average in AL, doubt they will keep it up as they are an all-or nothing offense who don’t do anything more than hit HR’s, and that obviously doesn’t equate to success as the Jays have found that out for the past few years.

Yankees now know why the Angels dumped Vernon Wells. This guy cannot hit consistently anymore.

Yanks should really give serious thought of being sellers down the road. Most likely Kuroda has the most value of all the players on the roster, everyone else is untraceable due to injuries and large contracts or are nothing but low grade backups like Vernon Wells and Hafner.

Crashman’s is no Brian Sabean nor Billy Beane. Too many times he’s proven to be incompetent when it comes to finding FA who hecan build a team with, he’ll have a harder time doing that without the benefit of Yankee money with a shrinking payroll.

This entire Yankee lineup is one big joke, it’s not just Tex who is a notorious slow starter, most of the hitters on this roster can’ t even hit over .250, this was my biggest fear before the start of the season. Pretty much every hitter this team his signed has proven to be absolute failures. The biggest priority on this team is to get bats in this lineup that can provide some type of impact, something this team doesn’t have. Don’t look to the minors for that type of hitter, since it’s obvious the best this team can do is call scrub-type players who are nothing more than bench players like Adams, a converted 2B who is trying to play 3B. After years of putting up nothing more than average numbers in the minors, and being cut by the Yanks in the offseason, they know what they are getting in Adams. He’s the best this team can do?

Don’t look at getting bats via FA either, considering Crashman’s complete inability to find FATalent over the years even as bench players. Also, this team is seriously looking at reducing payroll for the foreseeable future. I weep for this team’s future.

now the whole thing is imploding after losing the opportunity to score in the last inning. Bull pen not getting it done. And any team that scores 5 runs against the Yankees are sure to win. Yankees can’t score more than 2 or 3 runs. Jays are now on a hot streak and soon at .500 and will overtake the Yankees if the 2 teams keep on like they’ve playing for the past 6 games.

Can’t agree more seeknay and George. Suzuki steals all the way from 1st to 3rd with no outs and he’s left stranded. The story of Yankee’s play for the past couple of weeks. The middle of the order is terrible. Certainly doesn’t put any fear in the hearts of the opposing team.

Don’t we have any pinch hitters. You got to be kidding me.runner on third & no outs, & we can’t even hit a fair ball. Come on Joe whats up with that. You rested Cano yesterday & they couldn’t catch a pop fly which cost Andy the game. I guess we shouldn’t complain, we knew it would catch up to us. I guess we didn’t think it woud happen so fast. Starting to wonder if Tex is EVER going to get another hit this year? Frankly I don’t think this guy is worth the $$$$ that are paying him. I look for Mgmt to try and trade him in July, although I’m not sure they will get much for him. On another note THE LESSON to be learned from this season is that this team NEEDS to get younger. Whether it is done through FA, trades or the farm system this team NEEDS an influx of youth. It is long overdue.
