Andy Pettitte exits after 79 pitches with injury

NEW YORK – Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte was forced to leave his start against the Mariners on Thursday after 79 pitches with an apparent undisclosed injury.

Pettitte appeared to stiffen and wince after throwing his final pitch, a swinging strikeout of Kyle Seager for the second out of the fifth inning.

UPDATE: Pettitte has a tight left trapezius muscle in his upper back, according to the Yankees.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi dashed to the mound and held a fairly lengthy conversation with Pettitte, who shielded his mouth with his glove. Pettitte jogged off the field and was relieved by Shawn Kelley.

Pettitte allowed two runs and four hits in his outing against Seattle, with three walks and five strikeouts. He entered play on Thursday with a 4-2 record and 3.83 ERA in seven starts.

I hope this isn’t age catching up with Andy, but I fear it is. This might be his last year. I hope he gets better soon and stays healthy the rest of the yr.. He’s a big asset when healthy.

Can anyone tell me why Fransisco is in the lineup? The guy is useless. Is that the only right handed batter we have on the team? Most teams are putting up left handed pitching against us because we have mostly left handed batters and hardly any switch hitters in the lineup. Cano can’t hit left handed pitching either. It is not a well balanced team this year and fortunately we’ve got away with it up till now. But it’s going to come back on us soon. Granderson is another one who doesn’t hit left handed pitching well. If we win this series against the Blue Jays I’ll be surprised.

I’ll tell you this. This Blue Jay team is not the same team the Yankees swept in the last series in New York. They have a powerful lineup and have won the past 4 games. One of the hottest hitters is the former Yankee Cabrera which unfortunately we allowed get away from us. With the no name lineup we have and which is getting more no name with every game we are no match for the Jays. Kuroda will have to pitch his A game for us to even have a chance. No Hafner. No Nunez. No Stewart. No Tex. No ARod. No Jeter. Andy gone on the DL. You can only win and lead the division so long with the kind of lineup we have right now. Age is going to show itself in more injuries.

Lose a series to the Mariners in your own ball park. Had their chances and didn’t capitalize. You can’t win many games only scoring 2 runs. Gardner hustles to 2nd and 3rd,stealing both bases with only 1 out. All Nix needed was a sacrifice fly and strikes out. Cano grounds out. End of game and Gardner left standing on 3rd. Hope Andy doesn’t miss a start. How many more injuries will this team incur. Almost every game someone goes down. Now they might have to bring up another catcher and they’ll have 2 rookies as the catching tandem until Cervelli comes back. Scary. the Yankees are going to have to worry more about the Rays I think than the Sox or Orioles. Now they face a series against a powerful Jays lineup who have been playing much better over the past few games.

Damn IT!!!
