Cervelli needs surgery on broken hand; Nova heading for MRI

A double whammy for the Yankees here tonight in the Bronx:

  • Francisco Cervelli has a fractured right hand and will require surgery. He will miss a minimum of six weeks, the Yankees said. Cervelli suffered the injury when he was hit by a foul top off the bat of Toronto’s Rajai Davis in the top of the first inning.
  • Ivan Nova left tonight’s game in the third inning with right elbow pain. He has been scheduled for a MRI tonight.

As always, more updates as soon as we have them.

Got to tell you Yankee fans I like this team. They might NOT be the most talented BUT they have guts and refuse to lose. Right now Travis Hafner is having an MVP season. Hang on fellows until the walking wounded get back. Win just WIN.

Don’t like Stewart in the #1 catcher role until Cervelli gets back. Too long a time and Stewart isn’t strong defensively as his performance tonight showed and he’s really weak at the plate. We need to give Romine more of a chance and see how he does or trade for a more experienced catcher in the #1 spot.

didn’t see the game today on TV or gameday but glad to switch on and see the Yankees won another one against the Jays, although CC wasn’t stellar and all along I’ve been questioning why Fransisco is in the lineup as DH because he can’t hit left handed pitching or right handed. He hasn’t got the job done at all. I said I’d rather see Hafner in even though it’s lefty on lefty. He couldn’t do worse than Fransisco. Girardi must have been listening because he put Hafner in today and he gets a home run and triple and drives in 4 runs. Stay with it Joe. You’re never going to get that kind of production from Fransisco. It was not a good signing in the offseason. We didn’t fill that role of righty DH on lefty pitching very well. Still need to trade for someone or bring someone up who can fill that role.

Gotta keep Pronk healthy. Better to under-use him!

man, how many more can the Yankees lose to injury and still win games? Becoming disastrous.
