ALCS Game 4: Yankees at Tigers (rained out)

As the Yankees fight to extend their season for another day, they’ll do it without Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson in the lineup.

The start of ALCS Game 4 is being delayed due to inclement weather in the area, and the forecast isn’t particularly kind until after midnight, according to what I punched up from the Weather Channel. After what happened in last year’s AL Division Series right here, with CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander getting knocked out early in Game 1, Major League Baseball has been sensitive to starting games with threats in the area.

So, we’ll wait… Here are the lineups:

Ichiro Suzuki LF
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Raul Ibanez DH
Eric Chavez 3B
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner CF
Eduardo Nunez SS

CC Sabathia LHP

Austin Jackson CF
Omar Infante 2B
Miguel Cabrera 3B
Prince Fielder 1B
Delmon Young DH
Jhonny Peralta SS
Andy Dirks LF
Avisail Garcia RF
Gerald Laird C

Max Scherzer RHP

You are both absolutely correct in your accessments of this team’s inability to hit come playoff time. I’d like to add one more challenge for Cashman and Company. This team has limited chemistry. Fact is, as I have posted before, some members of this squad lack character both on and off the field. In addition, they care more about themselves then the uniform and team they are representing. Frankly I am sick of watching these individuals and their lack of talent and massive egos. In short, those that I have described here, and you know who they are Yankee fans, need to be sent packing to other clubs to spread their cancer. As they have done with the previous clubs they were on.

Unfortunately this team doesn’t have clutch hitters it can rely on in the lineup, the do have plenty of guys who don’t hit when the playoffs come around and can’t really be counted on for clutch hits. Big reason why this team’s offense barely showed up against Baltimore and has yet to show up against the Tigers. Here are the career post season BA’s of Yankee hitters on the roster:

Granderson .231
Cano .226
Rodriguez .265
Swisher .167
Gardner .226
Nunez .250
Martin .204
Ibanez .248
Chavez .198
Suzuki .360

Not exactly a murderers row or a championship lineup. None of these guys can be relied on to generate offense in the post season.

another “scary” lineup Joe has put together. If these guys don’t get it done any better than before or those left off then the Yankees will be preparing for Halloween early and will be off to wherever they go in the off season. I think mentally they’ve been there this whole series, maybe even the past month. Certainly their play would indicate they’re gone somewhere. I don’t hold my breath for a win tonight and even if we win this one it will likely be the last for the year. A lot of work will need to be done in the off season to put this team together with the next 5 years in mind. Where are the clutch players who can hit regulary with RISP? That’s what we need. Home run hitters don’t guarantee winning in the playoffs as this year has proven.
