Game information from the Yankees’ media relations team:

HIRO’S WELCOME: Tonight, RHP Hiroki Kuroda will become the first Japan-born player to make a postseason start with the Yankees.
ð Went 11-6 with a 2.72 ERA (132.1IP, 40ER) in 19 starts at Yankee Stadium, the seventh-best home ERA in the AL in 2012.
ð Pitchers making their first postseason start as a Yankee have gone 8-6 since 2000.

THE CAPTAIN’S POSTSEASON LOG: SS Derek Jeter has played 154 career postseason games, batting .309 (195-for-632) with 109R, 31 doubles, 20HR and 60RBI… is a career .345 (88-for-255) batter in ALDS games, hitting safely in 13 of his last 14 contests dating back to 2007 (.323, 20-for-62).

ROOKED: The Yankees are 16-14 vs. rookie starting pitchers in 2012 (including postseason), with wins in 11 of their last 15 matchups.
ð The Yankees are facing two different rookie starters in the same postseason series for just the third time… also happened in the 1955 World Series vs. Brooklyn when they lost to Roger Craig in Game 5 at Ebbets Field and defeated Karl Spooner in Game 6 at Yankee Stadium; and the 1952 World Series win vs. Brooklyn, when the Dodgers had four games started by rookies (Joe Black – Gms 1, 4 and 7 and Bill Loes – Gm 6).

Good to see the ghosts come out in the ninth and 12th. It’s tough to beat them and the current players! He might have failed the last couple of nights, but AROD will come up big tonight. Saunders is the type of pitcher he can still hit. He likes to nibble and throw the curve. AROD doesn’t have to fear getting beat by his fastball, thus he can concentrate at the plate.

He certainly will play and I’d love to see him come up big! Good call MY.

Thank you Raul Ibanez. And mickeyyogi you hit the nail on the head. Tomorrow Girardi needs to DH Raul and play Chavez at 3rd. Time to bench #13.

Six outs left and this kid for the Orioles has pitched great ball. Of course some of the Yankee hitters, Grandy and AROD, have helped him. Got to get a ball up in air towards right and it will go!

One more note; Kuroda has pitched on ^ELL of a game.

well robert G his faith in #13 has been rewarded with a groundout and 2 K’s. Half his AB’s in this three game series have resulted in strikeouts. Far as I am concerned he would NOT be in the lineup at all. The guy isn’t and has NOT been hitting. In layman’s terms the man is DONE. Just shows that all of his pwer was because of the “juice” and little else. Now, as a result of steroid use, his body continues the breakdown. Again I state the obvious, CUT YOUR LOSSES and RELEASE THIS GUY at the end of the season.

Unfortunately Joe went against all the advice of fans and sportswriters to move ARod down in the order and move Cano into the #3 spot. Joe is pretty stubborn when it comes to playing his veterans. Maybe he’s getting pressure from Cashman too, who knows. Some would call it loyalty to a fault. Some would say he’s chicken and doesn’t want to upsetARod, the millionaire, who’s still trying to play on his reputation and past stats. All I can say ARod better produce tonight or there will be a real swell of criticism after this game that might jeopardize Joe’s future as manager. Fans will be after his head. This is a must win game. The O’s have won often this year inYankee stadium. It doesn’t scare them. Got to get RISP home which they haven’t done all year. And they need to score runs early. They were flat the last game. They need to have some jump tonight and show some hunger and desperation. Robert G. Good to have you back. But not getting any of your comments. Would like to hear them.
