Game 156: Yankees at Blue Jays

NEW YORK YANKEES (90-65) at TORONTO BLUE JAYS (68-87)
RHP Ivan Nova (12-7, 4.94) vs. RHP Brandon Morrow (8-7, 3.28)
Thursday, September 27 • 7:07 p.m. • Rogers Centre
Game #156 / Road Game #78 • TV: yes • Radio: wcbs (eng.)/wado(span.)

We’re under the roof here at Rogers Centre as the Yankees look to inch closer to their goals of locking up a postseason berth and securing the American League East title. New York’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four entering play tonight and their magic number to win the division stands at six, with the Orioles enjoying an off-day.

Ivan Nova has the ball for the Yankees tonight as he tries to complete what manager Joe Girardi described as an “up and down” season on a positive note.

“I think you can look at his last two starts and it’s kind of been how his year was,” Girardi said. “He started out great, reeled off a bunch of good starts together, then he kind of went through a funk. Got hurt, came back, had a good start and then a not-so-good start. Tonight’s important. It’s important for us.”

super Nova(how he called himself early in the season) is no super any more if he ever was. He’ll never live that down especially with the iconsistent way he’s been pitching this year. Comment that he’s appreciative of what baseball has done for him. Yeh, we’ll he needs to show his appreciation to the Yankees and the chance they’ve given him and the salary they are paying him, by stepping up every outing and pitching well for 6 or 7 innings and not always blame the offense for no run support, although that too is an issue. He needs to go to the bull pen like Joba. Not consistent enough as starter. We can’t afford to lose any more games in this series. I’m worried because Toronto is a good hitting ball club. Encarnacion has been on fire replacing the injured Bautista. Their starting pitcher has been a disaster this year but after last night’s game it doesn’t matter because the Yankees can’t hit them anyway. The year could very well come down to this series this weekend.

Ditto robert G. Not anything else I can add. This game was totally forgetable.

What a disaster all around. Poor starting pitching by Nova. Typical inconsistence. No offense and against a pitcher who has been off disabled for a long time and is no cy young candidate by any means. Looked like yankees just going through the motions. No energy. No enthusiasm. No fire. if this doesn’t change and soon yankees won’t be one of the wild card teams let alone leading the division. This is bad. A lot of work to do in the off season. Team has got to old and too injury prone and with a sense of entitlement. Need some younger, hungry players. That was one of the worst games the yankees have played all year for all round poor performance and lack of effort. I wonder how Joe is going to spin this one tonight in his post game interview. Typical blah blah blah…same old same old
