Game 149: Yankees vs. Blue Jays

I’m sorry to say, but summer has left us. There’s a chill in the air here at Yankee Stadium, as the Yankees and Blue Jays complete this three-game series with Phil Hughes and Aaron Laffey going at it tonight under the lights.

For the Yankees, Hughes has a bit to live up to tonight after Andy Pettitte and David Phelps both pitched well in their respective starts yesterday, taking the ball against the Toronto lineup. Hughes is going for his third straight victory and beat the Blue Jays his last time facing them on Aug. 28, allowing one run in seven innings.

“You love to see starters compete against each other, and I think they like to do it as well,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “You try to out-do the next guy. We had a good performance from Andy, we had a good performance from Phelpsy, and hopefully we’ll see it carry over.”

STOP, THIEF: The Yankees have stolen 19 bases in September (and been caught just once)…  have swiped 12 combined bases over their last four games, after collecting 12 total SB over their previous 27 games from 8/16-9/14.
