Game 116: Yankees vs. Rangers

UNLOADING: The Yankees have hit a Major League-leading nine grand slams this season, one shy of their franchise record set in 1987 and matched in both 2010 and 2011… have led the Majors each of the previous two years (2010-11) and have combined for a Major League-high 29 grand slams over the last three seasons, more than double the next-best teams (Boston, Miami, St. Louis and Tampa Bay each tied with 13).
ð RF Nick Swisher hit his second grand slam last night, joining Cano and Granderson as Yankees with multiple GS in 2012… according to Elias, is only the second time in franchise history that the Yankees have had three different players with multiple grand slams in one season (also 2010 – Alex Rodriguez-3, Cano-2 and Jorge Posada-2).

PICK ME UP: In Monday’s win vs. Texas, RHP David Phelps picked off two runners. According to Stats, LLC, he became the first Yankees right-hander with two pickoffs in one game since Scott Kamieniecki on 6/18/1991 at Toronto.

HOLDING YOUR PLACE: Since 3B Alex Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 7/25, Yankees third basemen starting in his place (Chavez, McGehee and Nix) have combined to hit .375 (24-for-64) with 7HR.

HALL OF A DEVELOPMENT: Earlier today, the Arizona Fall League announced the election of three new members to its Hall of Fame — New York Yankees’ 1B Mark Teixeira and RHP Derek Lowe and Texas manager Ron Washington… Teixeira played with the Peoria Javalinas in 2002 and Lowe with the 1993 Sun Cities Solar Sox and the 1995 Peoria Javelinas.

I’d suggest when Arod is ready to return that Joe platoons Chavez and McGeehee and ARod at 3rd. Chavez has been productive nd McGeehee has power. ARod wasn’t doing much at the plate anyway before his injury. I don’t think ARod will ever be close to where he was in the past. TheYankees will be paying him big dollars over the next couple of years to platoon and DH. Great performance by Hiroki. Phelps did a great job as well. Perhaps he needs to stay in the rotation instead of Hughes who has been terribly inconsistent.

An OUTSTANDING performance by Kuroda. Makes Yankee fans forget about Irabu and Igawa.
