AT A GLANCE: The Yankees will begin a four-game series vs. the Texas Rangers tonight at Yankee Stadium… is the start of a seven-game homestand that also includes a three-game series vs. Boston this weekend… just concluded a seven-game road trip, splitting a four-game series at Detroit and taking two out of three games at Toronto…  are in a stretch of 20 straight days without a scheduled day off from 8/3–22 (6-4 thus far)…  following this homestand, play 16 of their next 22 games on the road from 8/20-9/13.
ð At 67-47 (.588), own the second-best record in the AL behind Texas (67-46, .593), and the fourth-best in the Majors, also trailing Washington (71-44, .617) and Cincinnati (69-46, .600)… are 20 games over .500, three shy of their season high.

LOWE AND BEHOLD: The Yankees today signed RHP Derek Lowe to a Major League contract… released by Cleveland earlier this month, Lowe is scheduled to pitch out of the bullpen for the Yankees… he is one of three pitchers all time with at least career 160 wins and at least 80 career saves (also John Smoltz and Dennis Eckersley)… in a corresponding move, the Yankees optioned RHP Ryota Igarashi to Triple-A Scranton/Wiles-Barre.

TWO-OUT MAGIC: Over their last two games, the Yankees have scored 11 of their 12 runs with two outs… are batting .403 (27-for-67) with 8 doubles, 4HR and 39RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs in August.

GREAT game all around. Swisher the hitting star. But BIG kudos to David Phelps who sucked it up in the 3rd inning and kept his team in the game, (TAKE NOTES #65) and Derrick Lowe who I believe is going to be a HUGE pickup down the stretch.
