Information from the Yankees’ media relations department:

FOURTH DOWN: The Yankees have lost a season-high-tying four straight games (also 7/19-22, swept in four-game series at Oakland)… became the last team in the Majors this season to post a four-game losing streak… are one of three teams that has yet to lose five consecutive games this season (also Cincinnati and Tampa Bay).

The four straight losses–all coming at Yankee Stadium–marks a season high home losing skid… is their longest such streak since a string of six straight losses from 5/11-20/11.

BROOM BREAKERS: The Yankees today are looking to avoid being swept for the fourth time this season, and first time at home… have not suffered a series sweep (of at least 3G) by the Orioles since 4/15-17/05 at Camden Yards and have not been swept at home by Baltimore in a series of at least three games since 6/6-8/86.

Have lost back-to-back series for the second time this season (5/16-17 at Toronto and 5/18-20 vs. Cincinnati)… have lost back-to-back series of at least 3G for the first time since 5/10-15/11 (1-2 vs. Kansas City and 0-3 vs. Boston).

IN CLOSING: The Yankees are 21-12 in series finales,  winning seven of the last 10… are 2-3 in games when facing a series a sweep (wins came on 5/30 at LAA and 7/4 at TB).

Mr. Hoch:

During his rehab assignments, Joba’s velocity reached 100MPH. During his performance in last night’s final game against the O’s, his velocity hovered around 92 MPH. In your opinion, do you think the weather had anything to do with the diminished speed on his four seamer?

Could have had something to do with that; I’m also thinking the minor league guns are a little fast. We’ll know more when he makes his second and third appearances. Last year he maxed at 98 mph and hovered around 94 mph. That’s probably about where I expect him to sit.

Thank you for your response Mr. Hoch.

Well Joba pitched today. Thank God for a big lead. He made some decent pitches and some bad pitches, typical Joba.
