Sabathia placed on disabled list with groin strain
The Yankees are placing CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 strain of the adductor muscle near his left leg.
Sabathia felt a twinge in his groin during the fourth inning of his start against the Mets and reported the issue after he continued to feel discomfort during a bullpen yesterday at Yankee Stadium.
They are expecting Sabathia to miss two starts and believe he will be ready to return after the All-Star break. Freddy Garcia will take Sabathia’s place in the rotation, and the Yankees are leaning toward calling up right-hander Adam Warren to take Sabathia’s place on the roster.
“(Sabathia) didn’t want to go down,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “It was a one-way conversation. I did all the talking. I know what he wants to do, but this is what we’re going to do. He’s a competitor, he wants to be out there, he feels like he can pitch with it right now. But we’re not going to mess with it.”
