Yankees claim RHP Danny Farquhar from Athletics

The New York Yankees have acquired RHP Danny Farquhar off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, and optioned him to Double-A Trenton.

Farquhar, 25, has split the 2012 season with the Toronto and Oakland organizations, combining at Double-A New Hampshire (TOR) and Triple-A Sacramento (OAK) to go 1-3 with a 4.46 ERA (38.1IP, 19ER), 16BB and 39K in 25 games all in relief. Originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, he appeared in three Major League games (2.0IP, 4H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 1K) as a September call-up with the Blue Jays in 2011.

To make room on the 40-man roster, OF Brett Gardner (right elbow strain) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
