Information from the Yankees’ media relations department:

BIRTHDAY BOY: SS Derek Jeter is celebrating his 38th birthday today…the only players to accumulate more hits prior to turning 38 years old were Hank Aaron (3,272) and Ty Cobb (3,666)…currently owns 11 more hits than all-time hits leader Pete Rose (3,170) at the time of his 38th birthday (credit: Elias).
Ø On his birthday, owns a .318 (14-for-44) average with 8R, 2 doubles, 3RBI and 7BB in 11 career games…has never homered on his birthday…last played on his birthday in 2010 at Los Angeles-NL, going 1-for-4 with 2R and 1BB in a 9-4 Yankees loss.

GETTING MORE INK: The Yankees have signed three more picks from the 2012 First-Year Player Draft…C  Peter O’Brien (Compensation B pick following second round), OF Nathan Mikolas (third round) and RHP Corey Black (fourth round) have each signed with the Yankees…the Yankees have signed 13 of their top 15 picks,16 of their first 20 and 20 overall from this year’s draft.
Ø Yankees fifth round pick 2B Rob Refsnyder (yet to sign) was named the College World Series MVP last night as his school, the University of Arizona won the national title…is six CWS games, he went 10-for-21 (.476) with 6R, 5RBI and 2SB.

Exactly my thoughts robert G., Wade is pitching his way out of this staff. with Aardsma and Joba possibly coming back Wade might be on his way out.

Disastrous 9th inning for Wade. This guy is not pitching well in late innings any more. He’s too hittable. Never bring him into a close game. Almost blew this one.Strong game from up and down Hughes. Wish he’d pitch like this every game from hereon in. Another win for the Yankees and looks like losses for the Rays and the O’s.

If I was the Yankee pitching coach, Phil Hughes would drive me insane!!!!
