MARATHON MEN: The Yankees’ 14-inning win on Saturday at Washington marked their longest game since 9/25/11 (Game 2) vs. Boston, a 7-4 loss… marked their first win in a game of 14 or more innings since 8/7/09 vs. Boston (a 2-0 win in 15 innings on Rodriguez’s “walk-off” HR)… had not won a road game that long since 6/1/03 at Detroit (10-9 in 17-innings).
Ø The Yankees are now 3-0 in extra-inning games this season (all coming on the road)… went 4-12 (.250) in extra-inning games in 2011, matching their second-worst such record all time (1933: .100, 1-9 and 1949: .250, 3-9).
ROAD TRIPPIN’: The Yankees have won six straight road games (since 6/3 at Detroit), matching their longest road winning streak this season… haven’t had a longer road win streak since 6/24-7/9/09 (eight in-a-row) – also the last time they swept consecutive road series of at least three games (at the Mets and Minnesota.
Ø Are looking to go undefeated on a road trip of at least two teams for the first time since going 6-0 at Tampa Bay (3-0) and Minnesota (3-0) from 5/7-12/02.
SWEEPING SENSATION: The Yankees are looking to complete their sixth series sweep of the season–third straight–and fifth overall on the road this season… are looking to sweep three consecutive series of at least three games for the first time since 6/5-14/07 (at Chicago-AL, vs. Pittsburgh and vs. Arizona).
