Game 31: Yankees vs. Rays

May 10, 2012, 7:05 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.
TV / Radio: YES/MLB Network, WCBS 880 AM

We’ve got a good one on tap in the Bronx, as CC Sabathia and David Price square off in a matchup of dominant left-handed starters. They’ve locked up five times previously, and Sabathia is still looking for his first win in a game against Price. The time might be right; Sabathia has won his last four starts while clicking well with backup catcher Chris Stewart.

Price is gunning to take over the AL lead in wins, currently tied with teammate James Shields and Jered Weaver of the Angels. Price has also won his last four starts, and long balls could be in short supply; his 0.23 home runs per nine innings is the best mark in the league.

Here are tonight’s lineups:

RAYS (20-11)
Ben Zobrist RF
Sean Rodriguez 3B
B.J. Upton CF
Jeff Keppinger DH
Brandon Guyer LF
Carlos Pena 1B
Elliot Johnson SS
Chris Gimenez C
Will Rhymes 2B

David Price LHP (5-1, 2.35)

YANKEES (16-14)
Derek Jeter SS
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez DH
Mark Teixeira 1B
Curtis Granderson CF
Andruw Jones LF
Eduardo Nunez 3B
Chris Stewart C

CC Sabathia LHP (4-0, 4.15)

Great game last night. However, can someone shed some light as to why
Girardi keeps putting in Nunez? Every game seems to log yet another error.
Last night it cost us 2 runs. And why is he resting the starters so much that
ARod has DH’d 1/3 of the games to date??

Good win for CC. Now if only we can win the series by winning the last game. Need to make some ground up on the Rays. Other teams in division like the Jays and Orioles are also going to be a challenge. What’s up with Gardner now? Another injury? Good night Yankee fans.

CC his usual reliable dominant self. Too bad we can’t clone him a couple of times. After CC it’s take your chances. Got a couple of big hits tonight in support of CC’s strong effort. Now hopefully the pen can close it out and not blow it like last night.
