Game 28: Yankees at Royals

May 6, 2012, 2:10 p.m. ET, Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Mo.
TV / Radio: YES, WCBS 880 AM

The good news here this afternoon is that the Yankees and Royals expect to be able to start on time. The bad news is that they’re also expecting a delay somewhere after the first hour of the game, but the Yankees don’t come back to Kansas City and would love to avoid burning a mutual off-day to make up the game. Thus, we could wait for a while if the weather interrupts the action.

It’s a fairly big start for Phil Hughes, who will try to push aside any suggestions that he should go to the bullpen when Andy Pettitte returns to the rotation. Hughes showed signs of progress in his last start and is 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA in five career appearances (four starts) against the Royals.

Luke Hochevar gets the call for Kansas City. Hochevar made his big league debut against the Yankees in relief on Sept. 8, 2007 and has made two other starts against New York, both at Yankee Stadium. He is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA lifetime against the Bombers.

Here are today’s lineups:
