Game 26: Yankees at Royals

There was an early lineup posted here at Kauffman Stadium, as Chris Stewart — who, by the way, is not CC Sabathia’s personal catcher (or so Joe Girardi says) — is behind the plate again as Sabathia gets the start.

The headline of the day comes from Mariano Rivera, who says that he’s not going out like this and plans to come back to pitch for the Yankees in 2013. In the meantime, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano are in line to share the closer’s duties, though at some point Joe Girardi would like to settle on one closer. It’ll be interesting to see who he gets up in a save situation tonight and, really, for a while.

Mark Teixeira (who said he has been dealing with chronic bronchitis since the Welcome Home Dinner in New York) has given the Yankees an early lead with a two-run homer off Bruce Chen, coming in batting .474 (9-for-19) with six homers against the lefty in his career. Let’s see if Sabathia makes it hold up.

Here are the lineups:

YANKEES (13-12)
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez DH
Robinson Cano 2B
Andruw Jones RF
Jayson Nix LF
Eduardo Nunez 3B
Chris Stewart C

CC Sabathia LHP (3-0, 4.58)

ROYALS (8-16)
Jarrod Dyson CF
Alex Gordon LF
Billy Butler DH
Eric Hosmer 1B
Jeff Francoeur RF
Mike Moustakas 3B
Bryan Pena C
Chris Getz 2B
Alcides Escobar SS

Bruce Chen LHP (0-3, 4.23)

robertson dominant in 9th. Looks like Mo’s replacement until Mo gets back. Good solid game for the Yankees. Great pitching by the Ace. Even Tex got a home run tonight and chipped in. Hope it gets him on a hot streak.

Let’s go Yankees. Win this one and every one the rest of the year and into the world series for Mo. Should be able to pull out a win tonight with CC even though we haven’t got a strong bottom of the lineup. But they might be the guys who win it for us. Some of the “big” guys haven’t been getting it done. Got to win this one. We don’t want to share the basement in the division with the Sux.
