Home Opener: Yankees vs. Angels

April 13, 2012, 1:05 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.
TV / Radio: YES, WCBS 880 AM

Hello from Yankee Stadium, where there’s always something special about being at Opening Day. As Derek Jeter said, it doesn’t really feel like the season starts until the Yankees are at home, so now everything can get started for real. The festivities will be highlighted by the Yankee Stadium return of Jorge Posada, who didn’t waste any time getting back here — in fact, he was in the lineup the last time the Yankees played a game in the Bronx.

“He deserves it,” Jeter said. “I think he’s going to get a warm ovation from the fans.”

Joe Girardi talked a little bit about having those familiar butterflies as the Yankees prepare to play their first of 81 in the Bronx, but there was news in his press conference as well. Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano have been flipped in the batting order, and Girardi said this will be the lineup going forward against right-handed starters. The idea is to make it tougher to navigate the lineup with left-handed relievers in the late innings, he said.
