Spring Game 30: Yankees at Marlins

April 1, 2012, 1:05 p.m. ET, Marlins Park, Miami, Fla.

As the Yankees take their first looks around this new Marlins Park here in Miami, there were a lot of wide eyes and impressive words. The retractable roof worked like a charm, the big screen in center field is bright and beautiful, the sculpture in left-center field is … interesting … and the fish swimming behind home plate are just an awesome touch. It’s hard not to feel like this place is going to serve the Marlins well in the years to come.

“I think it was important for them to get their own home,” said Joe Girardi, who managed the Marlins in 2006, “because I think at times they were losing players that the would have liked to held onto, just because they didn’t have revenue sources. So I think it’s really important for the organization. I think everyone saw what they did in the free agency which they haven’t been able to do for awhile. And I think that’s good for the organization. I think it’s good for the community.”

Girardi said that the lineup he is putting out here this afternoon will probably be the same one we see on April 6 for Opening Day at Tropicana Field.
