  • Outfield prospect Mason Williams is on the trip and Joe Girardi said he is excited to get a look. Williams starred at Class-A Staten Island last year. Other players up for the night from Minor League camp are C Kyle Higashioka, IF Kevin Russo, IF Ronnier Mustelier and OF Dan Brewer.
  • RHP David Robertson threw a bullpen today and reported no pain, tossing about 25 pitches. He’s next scheduled to get back on a mound Tuesday, when the bullpen of the day will be the one thrown by Andy Pettitte. Derek Jeter, Nick Swisher and Russell Martin are all scheduled to play Tuesday, but Girardi said if Jeter can’t go, he’d play him Friday to save him a couple of bus trips to Port Charlotte and Fort Myers.
  • Speaking of Pettitte, Girardi emphatically said that the Yankees wouldn’t consider a six-man rotation to accommodate him whenever the 39-year-old is ready. “I should not say never, but no, no, no,” Girardi said.
  • Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi both said there is no chance of seeing RHP Joba Chamberlain in a game this spring. Chamberlain had optimistically floated the idea of breaking camp with the club; he’s still ahead of schedule but the Yankees are really looking more toward early June.
  • Girardi is thinking about flipping Ivan Nova and Hiroki Kuroda on March 23, having Kuroda face the Phillies and Nova seeing the Twins. Girardi explained that the Twins are probably unfamiliar with Kuroda and there’s no reason to give them a free look.

I’ll be catching this game on DVR delay and I’m anxious to see Mustelier too! He’s an older (28?) Cuban that plays all over the infield and the outfield corners with pop and very nice numbers at the A levels last year.

“center field prospect Mason Williams is up for the day and scheduled to play off the bench.”-Chad Jennings (LoHud)
