Spring Game 4: Yankees at Pirates

March 6, 2012, 1:05 p.m. ET, McKechnie Field, Bradenton, Fla.

We’re off to Bradenton and the ancient but recently renovated McKechnie Field, as the Yankees bus departed Tampa around 9:30 a.m. for the hour-long drive. It’s a starting infield day for the Yankees, who will have CC Sabathia and Phil Hughes pitching innings one through four. In case you were wondering, Hughes will warm up as though he is a starter and enter for the third inning, not as a reliever.

Here are today’s lineups:

YANKEES (2-1)
Derek Jeter SS
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Andruw Jones DH
Francisco Cervelli C
Chris Dickerson LF
DeWayne Wise CF
Justin Maxwell RF

Pitching: CC Sabathia LHP
Also scheduled to pitch: Phil Hughes RHP, Mike O’Connor LHP, Brett Marshall RHP, Graham Stoneburner RHP, Chase Whitley RHP.

PIRATES (1-2)
Jose Tabata RF
Clint Barmes SS
Andrew McCutchen CF
Casey McGehee 1B
Neil Walker 2B
Rod Barajas C
Yamaico Navarro DH
Nick Evans 3B
Brandon Boggs LF

Pitching: Kevin Correia RHP

CC Sabathia in action on Tuesday at McKechnie Field.

CC shaky in the 1st inning. But game tight up to the 8th and then poor pitching from our minor leaguers did us in again. It’s spring training but today and last game no offence and pitching in later innings has blown the game open. Don’t want to panic yet but Girardi is no doubt sorting out the guys who have earned the right to stay and the guys that need to go back to the minors. Even in exhibition I hate to see the Yankees lose. The other teams are using their young guys too so can’t use that as an excuse. Going to the game on Thursday against the Blue Jays. Down here in Florida for the winter.
