Report: Yankees discussing Edwin Jackson

The Yankees are balking at a high asking price for the Cubs’ Matt Garza and have instead turned their attention to free agent right-hander Edwin Jackson, CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reported Tuesday.

Noting that the Yankees and Jackson “aren’t in any way close to a deal,” Heyman suggests that New York and agent Scott Boras could eventually find middle ground. Boras has been reported to be looking for a four or five year pact for Jackson worth approximately $15 million per season.

That could prove too high for the Yankees, who have been preaching fiscal responsibility this winter and would not get involved with free agents C.J. Wilson or Mark Buehrle, despite their stated need for a starting pitcher to slot behind CC Sabathia in the rotation.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post noted on Tuesday that the Yankees like Jackson, but not enough to give him a big multi-year contract. They’d be more inclined to offer Hiroki Kuroda a one-year contract, but even that is too costly for their budget at the time.

What do you think about Scott Kazmir, the Angels released him, he was a decent pitcher a year or two ago. Don’t you think it would be worth the yankees inviting him to spring training as a lefty out of the bullpen?

How is it that Barry Larkin gets the call for the Hall and Donnie Baseball cannot get nearly enough votes? Mattingly’s career stats are better than Larkin’s and he only played 14 seasons as opposed to 19 for Larkin! It’s a travesty that the best 1st baseman of his era does not merit consideration for the Hall of Fame!

With that being said though, this team should not meet Boras’s demands of a $15 mill/yr. contract. This team doesn’t need to load itself down with another pitching bust.

There’s no way this team will be able to unload BUSTnett, with his huge contract and his lack of talent. This team needs tup grade itself otherwise we will see another loss in a Wild Card series. Garcia needs to go to the pen, and this team needs to get Jackson. I like Garza a bit more than Jackson but the Cubs are asking for far too much for a pitcher who isn’t better than a No. 3 in most rotations. Gotta say that Jackson isn’t any better than a No.3 himself he makes more sense than Garza and is a better option than Garcia.

We could only hope to get rid of Burnett…..you cant count on him even when he is having a good game its only a matter of time til he gets hit. We can hope with the way this offseason has gone that they pull something out of the hat,,,,like Cespedes! We resign Garcia who was decent but we need another top starter to have a chance to win it. Maybe Banuelos. I think they might not get in on Cespedes as they figure Montero is the next big time hitter,,,,which we also need. One aside please Jorge go out with some dignity retire as a Yankee. It’s over!

What is the possiblity we could see the yanks shop Burnett? SinceNova had a outstanding rookie year and can be a solid number 2

I think the Yankees would trade Burnett if they could find someone to pick up most of those two years and $33 million remaining. As you can imagine, nobody’s exactly hurdling over each other to get a piece of that, and Burnett also has a limited no-trade clause that blocks deals to certain teams.

Why dont the yankees try to make a trade for Felder.
they can trade texiera and maybe a top prospect to the brewers.

Prince Fielder? He’s a free agent, but the Yankees don’t have any interest. Teixeira has a full no-trade clause and he said last summer that he won’t waive it.
