Pettitte: “You’ve got to have things go right for you”

Andy Pettitte stopped by the MLB Fan Cave this afternoon and offered his thoughts on the Yankees’ run thus far in the American League Division Series. No surprises here: Pettitte is pulling for the Yankees to win and will be a very interested observer in tonight’s outcome.

Here’s a snippet of Pettitte’s thoughts:

“You’ve got to have things go right for you. You’ve got to have plays happen behind you. So far, they’ve got some things that have happened, that could have been a negative and have been positives for them, as far as making some big plays and getting out of innings.

“I think they definitely have a chance to get to the World Series, that’s for sure. Other than that, you’ll have to see how their pitching holds up. I think their offense is great, they’ve got guys who have been there and done that. Obviously I’m a little biased because I want them to win it, so we’ll see what happens.”

Tonight’s Yankees starter, Ivan Nova, is filling the role of wingman to ace CC Sabathia in this rotation – a role Pettitte knows well. Nova has found things he wants to emulate in the lefty’s game.

“He’s a really good guy,” Nova said yesterday. “I talked to him the day before I pitched my first playoff. He really helped me a lot. He’s a tremendous person. That’s the example that you’ve got to take. Who’s got more success than him in the playoffs?”
