Betances starts regular season finale
The Yankees will tab right-hander Dellin Betances as their starter for tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Betances, the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect according to MLB.com, has made one previous big league appearance. That came on Sept. 22 against the Rays at Yankee Stadium, and he struggled, allowing two runs and four walks in two-thirds of an inning.
“When you get in that situation, you’ve just got to relax and make pitches,” Betances said that night. “I was just over-thinking too much. Hopefully I get the chance to pitch once [more] before the season is over.”
Well, here it is. Betances, 23, was a young Yankees fan born in Washington Heights and raised on the Lower East Side, who attended David Wells’ perfect game before being drafted out of a Brooklyn high school — and now his start tonight could impact the city of Boston.
