With Jorge i think we all knew that while his numbers haven’t been “brilliant” it’s also fair to suggest that he didn’t turn into a waster overnight, he’s been through it all before and knows what it takes. He’s not produced as big as expected – he’s pushing 40 and has played catcher for years, he wasn’t going to hit .300, but he’s still got one or two clutch moments left in the tank. I know he moves slower than my 86 year old Granny, i know he’s got fewer hits than your average American Idol winner, but on that bench if i need a pinch hit i’d still turn to Posada more than any other player. There’s a sentimental piece of me wants him to catch the last home game of the season if he’s healthy, give him the send off his career body of work deserves – he might not have been the man this year, but he’s had a decent career!
.
And given we’ve won the division i wouldn’t be too miffed if we rested the main guys for the games against the Rays & got the main guys on during the Sox games!

A great win even though I was raggin them all night with only 2 hits. Jorge comes through again. I’ve been dumpin on him all year saying he was through, his best was behind him etc. etc. and it’s probably true. But he’s a veteran. He’s been through these situations many times and will really help us in the clutch in the playoffs. Hats off to you Jorge! And to the other guys who got on base so Jorge could drive them in. And to the bull pen for keeping it at 2 runs. See ya Bob. Didn’t believe the O’s could take care of the Sox like they have and we have opened up a 71/2 game lead. Now the dog fight for the wild card. After this series I think I’d rather have the Rays in the playoffs than the Sox.

Too bad girardi hadn’t pinch hit for Nunez. He hasn’t done anything all night.

Man, houdini does it again. Bases loaded and gets batter to hit into DP to get out of the inning. Robertson has been doing it all year. He’s going to be big in the playoffs setting up Mo.

I’d suggest this is the game right here.

Girardi is really stretch CC tonight I guess to save his bull pen but he looks like h might be tiring. This is a crucial inning right here and could determine the outcome of the game.

The bottom of our lineup is killing us at the plate tonight. But the guys at the top aren’t doing a lot either.

Like

time for some pinch hitters and start getting serious in this game.

you’re not going to win many games with 2 hits. The Yankees have a weak lineup tonight and the big guys are not getting hits either, other than CAno’s single dinger.

CC’s pitch count in good shape!

And the Orioles take the lead!

tough at bat for Gardiner to keep the inning alive. And the O’s have gone ahead of the Sox 6-4 in the 8th inning. Go O’s.

The 5th inning and the Yankees only have 2 hits. Terrible offense and run support for CC. The big hitters, the big money guys need to step up. Tex certainly hasn’t been knocking many out of the park lately. His home run output has dried up.

Let’s go YANKEES!

so the bottom third of the line up fizzles. No wonder Hellickson intentionally walked Cano. He knew what he was facing in the bottom of the lineup. We’ll be lucky to scrape out another win here tonight.

Montero got everyone excited with his 2 homers in the one game but really hasn’t done much at the plate since. He’s a rookie and perhaps expectations have been too high.

Like

CC is not sharp. Too many pitches. And he’s walking batters. He could be finished early.

Like

a rather weak bottom of the lineup with Dickerson and Nunez. Going to have to get production from the top 2/3

Of course we are playing these games resting some of our regulars while Tampa is putting their best team on the field desperately trying to get the wild card position. We have done well to take 2 games so far considering what’s at stake.

Like

CC up to 41 pitches already. His pitch count has been high early in his recent games. He’s not as sharp as he has been. Hope that doesn’t carry into the playoffs.

Like

Way to go Robbie. Too bad there weren’t any on base. CC hasn’t been his dominant self in recent games. Hope that doesn’t continue tonight. Need to clinch the division title asap. The Sox leading the O’s.
