IVAN “SUPERNOVA”….15-4 and another real nice pitching performance…kids impressive…another win for the good guys..

Wo, for the first time in a very long time BUSTnett turned in a somewhat decent outing, but that’s all it was, nothing more. Once again, he put this team in a hole and needed the Yankees to rally just to save his sorry neck from another loss. He still can’t go deep in games, and still can’t break out ofthe same pitching pattern that he has set for himself since coming to the Yanks, a very mediocre second-half pitcher who has been nothing but a bust who is proving to be yet another mistake by Crashman, hopefully it will be his last as GM. But BUSTnett is what he is. Can’t change that fact. Yanks won despite him not because of him.

To be honest if you’d said last night 5.1ip with 2 runs i think everyone would have taken that – not exactly a “commanding” performance, but kept us in the game long enough to get the job done, had he gotten out of the jam he’d have earned a solid victory. I’m still not convinced on Soriano, he’s a closer, that’s a mindset and when it’s not a save situation it changes the game, don’t get me wrong recently he’s been good, but still a bit to prove. That being said, i can’t think of anyone in the big leagues right now who i’d rather see on the mound than Robertson in the 8th, yeah he gets hit & walks a couple, but 82 strikeouts on the year is crazy and has a knack of getting out of jams too!

Nice win for Yanks , we had a group here watching the game(both red sox and yankee fans…lol), so couldn’t comment, but what a good ballgame and AJ had pretty nasty stuff tonight…he needs to be like he pitched tonight more often, but its baseball, and you never know….Russell Martin, Granderson and the relievers did a great job to preserve this win. Soriano looks like he’s starting to get comfortable here in his 7th inning role and that shortens the game for the Bombers…look good baby!!!…Keep in mind we didn’t use Colon nor Nova and won 2 games…we used Hughes and Burnett, our 4th and 5th pitchers….big confidence builder for the good guys!!!

Well as my buddy Meatloaf once sang, “two out of three, ain’t bad.” Congrats all around tonight. AJ actually hung in there and pitched well for once. And the pen held them scoreless. Always to see Mo punch the redsox out, especially in the PIGPEN they play in. HUGE hit by Martin. Congrats to all of us on the blog, *ELL without us they would NOT have won!!!!

About time umpire called one on outside corner. Poor work behind the plate by the ump. It was good to see the Yanks get to Bard. I guess AJ lives to pitch another day. Maybe AROD will get hot in September. I do love it when Mariano strikes out the last guy for the win. It’s even better when it’s a Red Sox. Even better when it is the league leading hitter. 2 out of 3 gritty victories in Boston. Tip your hat to the boys!

Final in Texas: Rays 2 Rangers 7.

Like this

When you’re Mariano often you get the close calls. I think he should thank the ump for that last one although there were couple that looked on the outside corner on the previous batter that the ump called a ball, so I guess it all balances out. A good win. A real nail biter though. How often do you see Mo throw 28 pitches in the 9th.

There’s something about the Sox that scares Mo. I think he’s intimidated by them because of their record against him. Don’t see him walk a guy like Lawrie very often. Now he’s got to face a tougher hitter. Hopefully this won’t become another blown save for Mo against the Sox. We need this one badly.

Like this

But AJ needs a very quick hook!!!

Yes. Combined they should be decent!

Hope Tex is back for the Jays series. Montero had his chances tonight but didn’t perform well. Tough series to start him in.

Like this

92 we may make it!

Like this

I still think the way Mo pitched tonight he probably deserves to be in the rotation more than Hughes who has been awful his last few outings. AJ has the experience where Hughes is still a young pitcher with a lot to learn.

We’re here watching the last couple of innings intently. Don’t want to leave the game at this stage. Hopefully Mo can pull this one out. The Sox hit Mo better than any other team. Hopefully he’s got a good cutter working tonight.

For those with a ?, ZES is the Zone Evaluation System. Used to grade umpires ball and strike calls. It should replace the faulty human factor IMHO. Article available by E-mail request… with conditions if necessary!

Like this

Actually not a bad game from AJ, only 2 runs and 5 hits over 6. One mistake to Pedroia and that’s the game so far.

Like this

WE need ZES!

Like this

Bad call by the umpire on a 3-2 pitch. AJ was upset and he had a right to be. Right over the outside corner. Now we’re in a hole and turning the ball over to the pen. Somehow I don’t have a good feel about this game either. We had our chances and men on base and didn’t get them home. We’re getting to the final 2 innings with Bard and Pabelbon again and the result is pretty certain.

Like this

Pitch 6 was a strike on Gameday!

A little late with the hook!

Like this

In Texas through five: Rays 0 – Rangers 5.

Like this

The Yankees are killing themselves tonight. Bases loaded twice and nothing to show for it. Not getting RISP home has been a problem for the Yankees all year. I hope Tex is not going to be out for a coupleof games after that HBP. You could hear the crack as it hit the back of his knee. Unfortunately Cano hit it hard but right at the 3rd baseman. Yankees are going to have to get some runs soon or they’re going to be down to the 8th and 9th innings again and you know wat that means.

LOB must be high!

Will AJ pitch the sixth? With a quick hook?

Like this

Or in the NL pitchers bunt with one out because they’re bad hitters and usually can bunt.

Like this

No outs OK, because the man at third could score on a sack fly, passed ball, or wild pitch.

Like this

Every rally dies. Montero up again with 2 on and grounds out. Tough situations for a young hitter to be in. But what’s with Swisher? A real brain cramp. Was he not looking at the 3rd base coach for the signs and did he just go against them? I don’t think I remember Swisher bunting before. I’m sure he has but it must have been a long time ago. Why would he bunt in that situation even if there were no outs? He’s not a bunter. He is a power hitter and has a good run count. Long was all over him. And the players looked at him like he had lost it. Poor guy knew he blew it.

Funny it’s never the fifth. Makes me think of the days they used to hide the pitcher in right field on occasion. That was before my time!!!

Like this

Yes Matt, it’s usually know and love…………but not for him!!!

Like this

Yeah, know and hate. So much for the shut out. Well, at least he is consistent in terms of when he blows up.

Like this

Pedroia is good but AJ gave up a double to Gonzales which threw him off and he gets behind 3-0 to Pedroia and then has to pitch strikes over the plate and Pedroia ends up knocking it out of the park. AJ gets into trouble when he pitches too many balls, when he walks guys, and the Home Run kills him. Again, the 4th and 6th inning have been the meltdown innings for AJ and here we are again in the 4th. Is it the guys see him 2nd time around and knows how he pitches and waits for AJ to get into trouble and then they hit their pitch. This is starting to come apart already for AJ, but what else did we expect?

I don’t know what we get other than most games are either on the Fox channel or the Sportsnet. Some are ESPN and others are YES. Tonight we have the Yankees announcers and commentators. Sometime we get the Sox channel and have to put up with the Sox commentators. Most of the time we don’t get the Yankees games at all. The Jays dominate the channels. Usually if the Yankees are playing the Sox or are in an important game it’s carried on the Sportsnet channel here.

playground kickabouts & the odd Boys Brigade game, truth be told i was never really any good but i was brought up with the mentality that you can run a bit so you play – it was just part of growing up. Don’t play these days though – it’s one of the things which is not considered a sensible move right now, especially some of the tackles my mates see as “fair” which make NFL hits look like a hug!

I’d have thought Henry might have been a bit busier on this side of the pond given the football transfer window closed last night where Liverpool were busy! Comic moment from Big Papi there with his “slide” – those are the times you replace the divot & hope the greenskeeper doesn’t kick your backside over it!

Like this

No RGK, that’s with any team but particularly the Sox because their top three starting pitchers are quality pitchers.

Like this

What’s with Tex? He drives me nuts. He swings at pitches way out of the strike zone. He swings up on pitches which if he gets a hold of them he drives out of the park but often they just become pop ups. He really frustrates me as a hitter in clutch situations. Two men on base and he does nothing.

Too bad it’s Boston tonight for Montero. It shoulda been Baltimore!

Like this

Surprising to see Pedroia back in the fourth slot! I expected Ortiz!

Like this

To be honest i bet that kids head was racing all round Fenway in that at-bat, kinda struck himself out with strike 1 & the punchout, but considering it’s his first AB and the bases were loaded you’re really looking at that being a deep end baptism!

Like this

Is that only vs. Boston Bob?

Like this

Too bad we only got 1 run out of that inning. We should have had more. If you don’t get to these good pitchers early when you have them on the ropes, they can then settle down and shut you down.

Like this

Well we just saw Jesus, now we pray!

Yes, RGK. We get it on Sportsnet up this way so can watch it on TV rather than Gameday. A whole lot better.

He looks a lot thinner on YES!

What a position to put a call up in his first at bat. Bases loaded and 2 outs. Too bad he didn’t get a hold of the pitch he fouled off. It was a fast ball over the plate and he missed it. The last pitch was a ball but I guess it looked good and the kid was anxious to be a hero.

To be honest my Brother-in-Law was watching a game on ESPN last year which was a NESN feed and he commented that it wasn’t fair that you guys got good looking women while over here on football (soccer) coverage we get the ex-pro’s!
.
making Lester work in the first here, 36 pitches and he’s still not out of it yet!

Like this

I wonder what inning Aj will choose to implode? I’m hoping he doesn’t and has a strong outing for the sake of the team and the standings but based on his performances lately I’m not expecting too much. If he can ge through 5 innings and keep the runs down the Yankees mighthave a chance. Anyway, it should be an interesting night.
