Just going thru some names here…not being critical Seek..I’m searching the last 20 years to see who we really developed..Ian Kennedy?…possibly cy young award in NL…Nova this year..possible rookie of the year…Mo Rivera…hes been pretty good…Al Leiter was Yankee farmhand..of course Pettite…Ron Guidry…Phil Coke…in Granderson trade…Ramiro Mendoza…Wang..two 19 win seasons then 8 and 2 and got injured…Dave Righetti came up 30 years ago (doesn’t seem like it though), Bob Wickman…Ted Lilly…Alfredo Aceves (20-2 in major leagues)…David Robertson…Tyler Clippard (set up Nats)..Jose Veras(set up pirates)…Jeff Karstens…Jake Westbrook…Mark Melancon (closer Astro’s)..this is about all I can find…so I agree…we need some more Pettite’s and Mo’s…I may have missed some that are on rosters that came through the minor leagues…invariably…Of course we traded some of the above and others to get other pieces, some good and some bad…hopefully this next group will give us a couple stud pitchers…

mickeyyogi it’s always about pitching and this GM of ours doesn’t seem to understand that at all. As I have said many times on this blog the Yankees need a baseball man as its GM especially one that understands PITCHING!!!!

Like this

This team has had the toughest time producing good homegrown starters who have even come close to doing anything over their careers with the exception of Pettitte over the past 20+ years. The minors have been full of busts and injury prone pitchers who haven’t made it out of the minors. This team needs to get its act together and take another look at how it develops its pitchers. Even today’s top pitchers in the system are injury prone. I think this has to start by not re-signing Crashman.

That’s all folks!

Pitching, pitching, and pitching—–it always seem to bite us. Hughes couldn’t hit spots especially inside to lefties. Logan has had a bunch of good nights, but not tonight. You hate to cough up a lead, but they did tonight. The thought of AJ on the mound tomorrow night is not comforting, even a Yankee optimist will admit that. Hopefully we score in double figures tomorrow night because I’m not counting on AJ. Either that or it is about time for the Red Sox to play a bad game. They do every so often against other teams—–just haven’t against Yanks this year. I do miss those old Red Sox who you could always count on to choke!

Like this

Having BUSTnett on the mound against the majors’ top offense, there I said it again Robert, doesn’t comfort anyone. Sweep anyone? I could say this team needs to come out scoring a ton of runs against the Sox in order to win, but after seeing how he been smoked lately even that won’t be enough.

Like this

Gardner swings like a girl.

Like this

Now that’s not offensive.

Like this

Gardner hasn’t done anything significant with the bat lately as he is 6 for his last 52 AB’s, yet ANOTHER slump for this guy. Then again, he has always been an inconsistent hitter. He needs to stay out of the leadoff spot but this team doesn’t have a true leadoff hitter. Heck, even Ol’ Man Jeter is having a better year than Gardner, but like Gardner he is a flawed leadoff hitter, but at least Jeter can generate offense unlike Gardner. So much for his early season hot streak, I didn’t think he would be able to keep it up the whole season.

Like I’ve said before, having speed in baseball is nice, but it’s not the most important attribute to have on a team, speed doesn’t help if you can’t get on base, and that’s the only thing Gardner has going for him. Fortunately, this team doesn’t need gardner’s speed in order to be a successful team, never has in the past, nor will it be in the future. This team has always relied on bashing the ball not speed. This team will still be successful without a guy like Gardner.

This game was lost in the 6th inning tonight. This loss is on Girardi. Next time Joe take the guy out.

A$$ Job Burnednutts goes 2/3 of an inning.

That too!

Well IF they were going to take this series it had to be by winning games 1 and 2. I’d love to know the odds in Vegas for tomorrow’s game with A Jerk BUSTnett on the hill for the Yankees. Perhaps we ought to have a pool on here to see which inning A Jerk will implode.

Like this

Who is this jerkoff on the mound?

Like this

That is out of line!

with the Sox if you don’t get it done before the 8th inning then you can forget it the rest of the way. If the Sox have the lead Bard and pablebon will shut a team down completely.

Like this

You’re absolutely right there Robert G. The Sox don’t need to have their starters go 6+ innings when they have Aceves, Bard and Papelbum in their pen. That’s a huge advantage they have over the Yankee pen. Yanks don’t have a long reliever to come in and slam the door in the middle innings.

Like this

1-2-3. Save face & don’t come out for the 9th.

Hey, seeknay, I’m with you!! Now we have to suffer through tomorrow’s game with our favorite starter, Mr. Bustnett or Burnednuts or all the other nicknames he has got this year. And it sounds like there is no plan to bring anyone up from the minors to start so we are stuck with this crew down the stretch and into the playoffs.

A couple of comments on tonight’s game regardless how it turns out. 1) Yankee fans were sold a bill of goods on Phil Hughes. He has never been nor will he ever be a top of the line pitcher. He does NOT have it, period. At most he is a fourth or fifth starter, if that. 10-12 wins are perhaps what you will get out of him and do NOT expect this guy to pitch BIG against the better teams in the AL. He has proven that over and over again. I have felt all along that the Yankees put to much hype in this guy and Joba and babied them way to much. With that said, 2) you get five innings out of this guy and have a 5-4 lead WHY DOES THE MANAGER SEND HIM OUT FOR THE 6TH INNING???? For a guy who was a catcher Joe Girardi is clueless when handing his pitching staff. As badly as Hughes is as a starter he gave you 5 innings Joe and you had the *AMN lead. Put it in the hands of your bullpen!

Like this

This one is over. I can feel it. I only wish we could come back tomorrow with some confidence that we are going to win the game and the series. Sorry don’t have it based on past performance. And if Bustnett loses this game tomorrow I hope Girardi is going to send him to the pen for the rest of the year. How long are we going to have to put up with his tempermental outbursts and meltdowns? We’ve put up with it way too long already.

Like this

Eat that big poopie! Ayala? Ohnola.

Like this

Francona just rubbed it in your face Girardi…how did that feel???…He out manages you every year…as you rest your team!!!

Like this

Man, the Sox really have Grandy’s and Tex’s number. They haven’t done much between them tonight. They left Beckett in for the 7th, bringing Bard out in the 8th and Pablebon in the 9th. Game over.

Like this

Jeter swings at first pitch??? we are down 2 runs…late in game???

Like this

Put a fork in these bums. This game is over. After Burnednutts debacle tomorrow, 2.5 games out boys.

Like this

If we don’t win this game tonight we’ll end up losing the series and dropping 2 1/2 games behind because it’s a sure thing we aren’t going to win tomorrow night with Bustnett pitching.

Like this

Get Logan out before they do any more damage. He doesn’t have it tonight at all.

Like this

Great. Logan doesn’t get the job done. He’s in the pen for lefties and in a tight situation like this he needs to get them out.

Like this

Walk to Reddick was bad…veritek was unbelievably lucky on that double…a shame…Beckett may actually come back out or Aceves next inning

Like this

Sorry Joe. 2 batters too late. That run needn’t to have been scored if you had brought Logan in earlier. Obvious bringing him in for the left handed hitters. Need to stop the bleeding here

Like this

I barely typed the words and posted them and it happened. Hughes gets burned with walking Reddick. And Girardi again leaves his starter in one hitter, one inning too long. Hughes is over 90 and that’s often when he starts tiring and getting into trouble. Girardi makes this dumb mistake over and over and pays for it.

Like this

After four: Rays 3 Rangers 0.

Like this

Stupid walk to a kid like Reddick. Now you have a man on base with Scutaro and Ellsbury and Pedroia coming up. You can’t put the first guy on base, certainly not walk him. It usually comes back to bite you.

Like this

I hope they don’t get up this inning Bill.

Like this

I might look to take Phil out now with a lead…He hasn’t pitched that bad but this would be on a good note leaving with the lead….I also like the fact that francona put gonzalez and ortiz back to back…thats Logan territory..

Like this

We need more runs and we need the pen to hold the Sox to where they are. A one run lead in the 6th is not enough against this team.

Like this

Good rally. Guilty often in the past of leaving men on base. Getting them home tonight.

Like this

Papi playing 81 games a year at Yankee Stadium would be awesome…..and the Sox know it.

Like this

way to go Chavez. Bottom of the order looks weak but they’re coming through. they’re picking it up for Tex and Grandy tonight.

Beckett…..you can go home now…your done….

And we tie it!!!

Robert G…excellent…good point…why?? Lowrie is up next…

Like this

too bad the Yankees weren’t able to pick up Ortiz as their DH this year. At one point I think the Sox felt he was washed up and might have been willing to trade him.

Like this

Hughes’ biggest problem is he throws pitches over and over in the same quadrant of the strike zone….away…away…away…never anything under the batters hands, or in real tight…batters can extend the bat and hack away….nothing wrong with his stuff…he has real good stuff….watch Beckett…in, out…up and down…mixing area’s of the strike zone with different types of pitches…

Like this

Way to go Phil. Your old nemesis, giving up home runs back to haunt you. Why does he pitch to a guy like Ortiz. When the count is 3-2 don’t throw a juicy fast ball in the middle of the plate. You throw a changeup or curve off the plate and if Ortiz walks with 2 outs then you face the next guy. You don’t risk giving up 2 runs. Poor decision with negative result.

Like this

Ouch!

That inning was better!

2 strikeouts already for Cano tonight. He’s going to have to figure Beckett out soon.

Pass.

Like this

HA!! I knew you would!!! I know you sooooooo well.

Like this

When you have to intentionally walk a hitter in the 3rd inning it says the manager doesn’t really have confidence in your ability to pitch to the big hitters. And then he gives us a hit and a run to a utility infielder.

Like this

It’s coming unravelled again for Hughes early in the game. Soon the Yankees are going to have to face reality with Hughes. He had lots of promise but hasn’t really delivered this year and as bad as AJ is it might be Hughes that needs to go to the Pen. Eventually I can see him being traded. I think the Yanks have been patient and given him every chance but he’s not producing. They can’t keep putting him in the starting rotation with the way he’s been pitching.

Like this

Now Hughes is showing why he frustrates so many fans. Up against a good hitting team like the Sox he has trouble and it’s happening again tonight. This could be a long night for the Yankees if Hughes doesn’t get this under control.

Like this

Yup, there’s a reason why the Sox have the best offense in the majors.

Like this

Ha, ha, knew you couldn’t resist Matt.

Yikes, BIG TROUBLE!

As you go down this Sox lineup there are certainly not many weak spots and when they get Youk back he’s a Yankee killer.

I’m excited to see Montero up at the major league level, can hardly wait to see what he can do. I’m pretty sure we won’t see the likes of Banuelos, Betances and Brackman at the major league level. Banuelos and Betances have already met the goals the team set up for them by going from AA to AAA, but their control is an issue, especially with Betances, it wouldn’t make sense to call them up before they get that issue under control. Brackman has just been awful this season, the second time in his three year career. His control has been worse than the other two, but then again he has always had control issues going back to his college days. Not likely we will see him this season either. This year will be used to set up next season for them.

Like this

Tex in a hole early. He’s been stuck at 35 home runs. Good home runs and RBIs but only 248 BA. Well below his career average I think.

Like this

Nunez has the guard on the left hand.

Like this

Well, the SWB catcher tonight homered on the first pitch he saw….that was Gustavo Molina.

Like this

the first four guys in the Sox lineup tonight have BAs over 300. Impressive.

Like this

Need Hughes to step it up tonight. He was awful the last game. And he needs some run support too which isn’t going to be easy against Beckett. We’ll be lucky to pull this one out. I’d rather have Martin behind the plate but understand he has a sore finger and will be in tomorrow’s game?

Like this

That’s the plan, they say Martin will catch tomorrow. He said he was “better” today.

Like this

Problem is we’re against Lester tomorrow (although could have been much worse i suppose if Wakefield had been pitching), while i’d rather face Lester than Beckett he’s not exactly a clown out there. Combined with the mental burden of knowing you’ll probably have to pick up AJ it might not be the smartest game to play Montero in.

Like this

Montero is not in tonight’s SWB lineup!

He’s expected at Fenway tomorrow; Yankees are calling him up unless something crazy happens…
