Game 128: Yankees vs. A’s

The start of today’s game is going to be delayed by rain, but Joe Girardi said that the Yankees expect there to be a window to get this one in.

Less promising, however, is the weekend forecast in Baltimore. The Yankees apparently discussed moving Saturday’s scheduled day-night doubleheader up to Friday, but the Orioles shot that idea down.

Thus, with a hurricane approaching the East Coast, the Yankees have five games scheduled for four days and no idea how many will actually get played. We’ll wait a while if necessary today; the A’s are taking the train to Boston and the Yankees will ride the rails to Baltimore.

Here are the lineups:

August 25, 2011 – Yankee Stadium — 1:05 p.m. ET (YES/MLB Network, WCBS 880 AM)

ATHLETICS (59-70)
Jemile Weeks 2B

To be honest Seek i went afk for half an hour and came back at 7-6 and thought not a million miles off your quote, if i’d went to bed & woke up to see that score without having seen it on Gameday for myself i’d never have believed it!
.
In other news though, surely i’m not the only one who’s got a little sentimental piece of me cheering the news that Thome has went back to the Indians, shame it’s a few homers too late. When i started watching baseball it was pretty much Thome, Griffey Jnr & Piazza that got all the “highlights” (or as many as i watched – school + 1-4am baseball didn’t really mix!) and well, it just seems right to see him back in Cleveland.

I leave to teach a class with them down 7-1, just check ESPN to see the Final score and it’s 22-9 with three Grand Salamis???? All I can quote is Butarski in Animal House, “HOLY *HIT!!!!!!!!!!”

I hope they didn’t score all their runs tonight and we’ll see a draught over the next 6 games. I’m always afraid of the next few games after a blow out like this. Enjoy it while we can I guess. Now the Sox have to lose

three grand slams in a game – that’s just gonna bug me now, ESPN America ran a “fans choice” game, either the Rays v Tigers, Twins v Orioles or Yanks v A’s and the TB game won the vote! I’d atleast have had some entertainment following the calamity which was the football!

This has to be a record for ABs with the bases loaded.

Come on Grandy, how about another grand slam! three in the same game would be some kind of record wouldn’t it?

Everybody’s hitting. Where has all this firepower been? Save some for theO’s this weekend. The hurricane might play havoc with the schedule this weekend.

martin’s going nuts tonight at the plate. That will teach the A’s to embarrass Martin by intentionally walking Swicker. He made them pay.

Hughes terrible performance and Wade’s homer woke the Yankees up. Don’t wake the sleeping giant A’s. He’ll come back to stomp on you. Anyway, great comeback. I guess like Yogi said, “It ain’t over till it’s over”. Better not crow too soon.

Well good to see that Hughes once again took his Bustnett STUPID pill for today’s game. Here the Yankees are in year five of Hughes and still the inconsistency. I asked last year when does this kid grow the *ELL up and become a pitcher. Starting to think the Yankees needs to rid themselves of these starters who are incapable of consistency. IF they do not win #28 I look for an overhaul of the starting staff beginning with Bustnett and Hughes.

i didn’t say anything about my armspeed and with my neck history i know several people who’d turn many colours if i attempted to pitch!

Don’t feel bad Allan. My fast ball tops out at 66mph!

After today what does the starting rotation look like? Take Bustnett and Hugely inconsistent out and you’re left with Nova, CC Garcia and Colon. Both Hughes and AJ based on their recent performances need to go to the pen but who pitches in the 5th spot? One of the killer B’s from the minors? Or trade Bustnett(if we could ever convince someone they’re getting a steal!) or Hughes and a prospect for a good starter. We don’t need a Carlos Pena but we do need a good starting pitcher. We’re not going to get to the World Series with what we’ve got now. Imagine beating the Phillies?

If i didnt run slower than Jorge Posada i’d offer to sign on for Cashman!

Hey gang. This team is in serious trouble. Our starting pitching is falling apart. We’re not getting the timely hitting and power hitting. We’re getting beaten by a last place team. I thought the eastern division was the strongest one. Looks like the team is playing for the wild card and the way they’re playing now they don’t even deserve that.

Hey Bob!

The way the A’s are playing the Yankees they’re not playing like a last place team. We can’t hit their pitching and they’re knocking ours all over the field, and not just squibbly singles either but extra bases. Hughes is certainly looking dominant at this stage of the game.
